Hanuman Dhoka

The devastating power of the earthquake in 2015 has wiped out or destroyed many of the historical monuments of Nepal that were protected by UNESCO. Among them, Hanuman Dhoka is a palace complex, built many centuries ago for the royal family. It partially survived, and now is again open to visitors, although now it is not only a majestic spectacle, but also a sad one.

What is interesting Hanuman Dhoka?

The monkey God, as translated from the local dialect name of the palace complex, became the progenitor of this place. Nepalese believe in this deity and revere it in every way in its embodiment in living beings. For many centuries in times of destructive wars, the temple of Hanuman Dhoka saved the inhabitants of the city and heirs of the throne from death within their walls.

The old royal palace consisted of 19 yards. The most famous among them is the court of Nazal, where the solemn coronation took place. The entrance to the palace was guarded by two stone lions, there was also a statue of the monkey god - Hanuman. The white building, built in the classical style, immediately attracts attention - it is so unlike the colorful stupas and temples in the neighborhood. Today, the partially restored building again receives guests, although unfortunately it has lost its solemn appearance.
