Mixoma is a heart tumor. Benign formation has a rounded shape and is attached to the inner wall of the organ by means of a "leg". More often in medical practice, the myxoma of the left atrium (approximately three-fourths of cases), the myxoma of the right atrium and the defeat of the interatrial septum are much less frequent. Mixomes can be of different sizes: very small - with a pea, or a few centimeters in diameter. Most often, a heart tumor is detected during a cardiac examination. Unfortunately, the later diagnosed myxoma, the more serious complications it threatens.
Causes of myxoma heart
Specialists are not yet able to give an accurate answer to the question: why is myxoma formed? There is an opinion that a benign tumor develops from a parietal thrombus. Other scientists consider myxoma as a true tumor, since the cells separated from it, along with the blood flow, are carried along the body, forming daughter tumors.
Symptoms of Myxoma Heart
There are clinical signs on the basis of which it can be assumed that in humans the myxoma of the atrium, including:
- progressive heart failure ;
- shortness of breath and unconsciousness;
- embolism in peripheral vessels;
- tachycardia and high blood pressure;
- heart murmurs, which change along with the change in the position of the body.
To differentiate the disease from other diseases of the cardiovascular system with similar symptoms, it is necessary to undergo a complete examination with a specialist.
Treatment of Myxoma Heart
Myxoma treatment is possible only surgically, and due to the fact that patients with such a diagnosis are prone to thromboembolism, and therefore there is a risk of sudden death,
After the operation, patients, as a rule, recover quickly, and their state of health comes back to normal. Myxoma relapses occur infrequently, usually in cases when the disease is hereditary or the excision site of the tumor attachment has not been completely performed.
