How to make an ottoman yourself?

Frameless furniture , which includes soft padded bags, has become incredibly popular. And it is not surprising, because these pouffes are light, interesting, bright. They like to relax and children and adults. Let's find out sooner how to make a soft ottoman with our own hands.

Armchair-bag - master-class for manufacturing

In this master class we will consider how to make your own hands a soft baggy bag in the shape of a pear with dimensions of 120x90 cm. For it you need to sew two identical covers from different fabrics. In case the chair gets dirty, you can remove the top layer of fabric and wash it.

Requirements for the material for the inner bag consist in the fact that it must be durable to reliably hold the "stuffing" even with the most active use. In this case, the fabric must allow air to pass through so that the chair assumes the desired shape. We need 2.5x1.4 m of such fabric.

The outer cover is made of strong wear-resistant fabric. We will need it, too, 2.5 x 1.4 meters. It can be corduroy, jeans, leather or leatherette, upholstery furniture fabric, canvas. If you take a fabric that does not allow air to pass, then at the top of the chair there should be a technological opening with eyelets for air outlet.

The structure of the bag in its finished form looks approximately as follows:

As a filler for this chair can serve as foam balls - polystyrene foam with a density of more than 25 kg / m3. To the chair a few months later did not shrink (balls have the property of crushing), you need to add to them a percentage of 30-40 sintepukha. Then the chair will be able to restore its shape after you get up from it and do not become flat, but remain bulky.

You need about 300-350 liters of filler. The cost of it is approximately $ 10 per 100 liters. Buy them can be in the construction shop or in the construction market. If you can not find expanded polystyrene in granules, you can buy sheet foam and crumble it.

We proceed directly to the question of how to make an ottoman with our own hands.

For sewing, be sure to use strong threads so that the chair can withstand the loads from your seating in it. You will also need these patterns:

These images must be transferred first to paper (newspaper, parchment). On the fabric, they need to be arranged in this way (to save fabric, the bottom is made from several pieces).

When all the pieces are cut from two types of fabric, we proceed to their sewing. First we spend the wedges of the inner bag. To do this, put them inside the front side, sew on one side, leaving the allowance 1-1.5 cm. The last seam is impregnated from the front side. On one side of the side we sew a zipper, its length should be 40 cm. Through it we will fill the bag with balls. To the upper hexagonal part we sew the Velcro, so that the inner cover does not become dull, but repeats the shape of the upper one.

It's time to fill the inner cover. When the "filling" is inside, tightly zipper and fix it. In the end, you should get this bag:

Be sure to try to sit on the chair at this stage to make sure that it is comfortable, and the filler in it is enough. If everything suits you, you can proceed to the next stage - sewing the top cover.

Sew it on exactly the same principle: first, we add all the wedges and spend it on the wrong side. In one of the sides we put a lightning 1 meter long. Do not forget about the back of the Velcro inside the hex.

It remains to insert the inner cover into the outer, connect the Velcro and zip. So our wonderful little ottoman is ready, which it is not difficult to do with our own hands.
