Why does the child have leukocytes in the urine?
The reasons for which the child has elevated white blood cells in the urine are not always easy to determine. This requires further diagnosis of the body. But to suggest why in the urine a child has a lot of white blood cells, it is quite possible even for the layman.
First of all, it is necessary to know the norms of white blood cells content in a given biological fluid. At girls their quantity should not exceed 8-10, at boys - 5-7. Before you look for the causes of high white blood cells in your baby's urine, make sure that you have correctly collected the biomaterial. Urine should be morning, contain only an average portion and be collected in clean and perfectly dry dishes, and before collecting the analysis the baby should be washed.
If repeated analysis confirms the presence of any hidden or obvious ailments, it is likely that such causes of increase in white blood cells in the urine of a child:
- intertrigo;
- allergy;
- metabolic imbalance;
- pyelonephritis, in which bacteria begin to multiply in the bladder, after which the infection can affect the kidneys;
- infection of the urinary tract, which affects girls more often than boys;
- collection of analysis after a meal, hot bath or exercise,
which can lead to an overestimated result of white blood cells in the urine; - rare urination when the child "tolerates" for a long time: this creates a favorable microflora for the reproduction of bacteria;
- stones in the bladder or kidney;
- inflammatory processes of the mucous membranes of the external genital organs;
- too small a volume of urine taken for analysis;
- eating too many foods containing vitamin C or protein.
