Campo del Moro

Come on an excursion to Madrid and not to visit the park of Campo del Moro - this means missing a piece of the soul of the city, not fully imbued with its atmosphere, history and beauty.

Campo del Moro - the cultural heritage of Spain

The park is located on the west side of the Royal Palace . It is the only one of the three parks at the palace ( East Square , Sabatini Gardens ), which belongs to the Spanish Crown, and not to the City Hall.

The name of the park - Campo del Moro (Campo del Moro) - means "field of the Moors" in Spanish. This is due to the historical fact: at the beginning of the ХІІ century the Moor's army was located in this place. They unsuccessfully tried to seize the fortress, which was in place of the modern Royal Palace. And it was only in the middle of the nineteenth century that an order was given to break up a park for the royal family here.

As a result, a picturesque park in English style appeared in the center of Madrid. Its area of 20 hectares is surrounded by a wall of white brick and has three entrances. However, only one in the west is operating - through the forged iron gates.

Campo del Moro impresses with a beautiful landscape in a romantic style. You will be captivated by the spirit from the huge green fields, adorned with intricately carved bushes and flower beds. In the park there are about 70 species of trees, some of which are more than 150 years old. In Campo del Moro, many paths, ponds with floating swans, ducks, fish and turtles, freely roam the peacocks, pheasants and pigeons. The park is also decorated with fountains, artistic vases, flower gardens, built by Spanish and Italian sculptors.

In the depths of Campo del Moro, one of the most interesting museums in Madrid , the Carriage Museum, was opened, where you can see the carriages and saddles that the royal family used at various times.
