Most people, while passing through Madrid , tourists and not only, are eager to visit the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, named after one of the first players who afterwards was both the coach of his team and the president of the football club. This is the home stadium of the oldest football club in Europe - "Real Madrid", the eternal rival of the Catalan "Barcelona". The club dates back to 1902 and currently plays regularly at the best stadium not only in Madrid but also in the world - Santiago Bernabeu.
History of the stadium
Almost until the middle of the twentieth century, "Real" played in the old stadium "Chamartin", but in 1944 the dilapidated building decided to update. And three years later in Madrid appeared the stadium "New Chamartin" with a capacity of 75145 spectators, of which only 27.5 thousand seats were sitting. He looked like two amphitheaters opposite each other. But already in 7 years, a special serious reconstruction began, as a result of which the ring of tribunes around the field closed, and real standing stands appeared. Immediately after the construction was completed, the stadium was given the name "Santiago Bernabéu" and its capacity was already 125 thousand people. A little later the stadium was electricity, which increased its popularity.
When Spain had the honor to host the World Cup in 1982, it was decided to conduct another reconstruction of the "Santiago Bernabéu". According to FIFA instructions, about 70% of seats should be safe and sedentary, which reduced the number of seats to 90 thousand 800 fans. Changes also touched the facade: a pair of electronic scoreboards appeared at the stadium, and a roof hung over the stands.
As the best stadium in the country, the Santiago Bernabéu in the 90s suffered two more reconstructions in the spirit of the times. Now there are no standing places at all, for the press and VIP-guests were allocated separate zones. Dimensions of the football field "Santiago Bernabeu" were 107x72 meters, and hot water circulates under it all year round. The exterior walls of the building were seriously strengthened, and the stands were placed so that the field is perfectly visible from any place. The new stadium "Santiago Bernabeu" in 2007 received the status of five stars for UEFA, which made it an elite stadium.

The tour begins with a panoramic elevator, from where you can admire the excellent view of the surrounding area. The museum of football glory has retained all the awards, gifts and photographs for more than half a century. Tourists are allowed to enter the field, sit in the Honorary Lounge, where members of the royal family are ill for their team. You will be shown a VIP-tribune, a locker room for opponents, a tunnel through which the teams go out onto the field, a press room.
At the end of the excursion to the Santiago Bernabeu you will be taken to the souvenir shop where you can put on any attributes of the fans: hats, suits, scarves, buy a ball, toy, a copy of any cup and much more for your taste.
How to get to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium?

Excursions are held from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 19:00, on Sundays and holidays: from 10:30 to 18:30. On the day of the match, tourists' access stops 5 hours before the start. For Christmas and New Year the stadium is completely closed.
Adult ticket (from age 14 and older) will cost you € 19, children - for € 13, children under 4 years old are allowed to travel with their parents free of charge. A football ticket costs from € 35 to € 150, and you can also purchase them online. By the way, for € 1 you can buy a soft mat on the seat.
