Garlic - a frequent guest on most of everyday and festive tables of our compatriots. This is a real storehouse of vitamins, so it can be found in almost every vegetable garden. Plant garlic better in the autumn, since winter sowing is a good way to get a crop earlier. How to do it correctly, we will tell in this article. For planting it is necessary to select the largest and healthy heads. It is best if they were grown in the nearest territories. Seeds are taken from the airborne inflorescences, which are formed in the firing varieties.

Time and place of planting of winter garlic

The timing of planting of winter garlic depends on the weather. The most optimal time is when the entire crop is harvested from the site, the trees have thrown off their leaves and it is forecast that in a week or two frosts will come. The soil temperature should be approximately 2-3 ° C. Depending on the location, this is the period from mid-October to mid-November. If you plant the garlic too early, it can germinate, which is very undesirable.

For the planting of this crop, it is necessary to choose the place where vegetables were grown earlier (cabbage, tomato, pumpkin, etc.), but, in no case, root crops, onions or garlic, also do not fit the areas where in that year The manure was introduced and with underground sources close to the surface.

To get a good harvest, it's not enough to choose the right place and lay garlic, you still need to prepare for it both land and planting material.

Preparing to plant winter garlic

Plants for planting winter garlic are beginning to be cooked in September. To do this, choose a well-lit area with light soil (loam or sandy loam). We dig it with pitchfork, choosing all rootlets of weeds, and then we carry fertilizers: a well-rotted compost (at the rate of 15-20 liters per m °) and potassium-phosphate fertilizer (it can be replaced with wood ash ). The optimal width of the bed is 1 - 1.5 m.

In a month, when you plan to plant winter garlic, then immediately before it must be processed. To do this, the peeled planting material is placed in a solution of "Phytosporin" (for several minutes) or etched for 24 hours in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

Rules of planting winter garlic in autumn

There are several options than you can make a landing of winter garlic: seeds (bulbots) or teeth. It is very important to choose the right depth to plant. If the earth is very loose, then for the teeth it should be 10-15 cm, and if the harder is 5-10 cm. Small garlic seeds are planted to a depth of 2-4 cm.

It is very important to properly deepen the seeds or teeth. To do this, you can make trenches of the depth we need at a distance of 10 cm between each other, into which the bulbs unfold, retreating 1-2 cm from each other, and the teeth - 10 cm. Or you can make individual holes, a little wider diameter of the planting material, at a distance of 10-15 cm, in which one tooth is placed. The second method is well suited for planting in the frozen soil. With such a planting, the strongest frosts do not frighten him.

After you have planted garlic in the winter, it is necessary to wallow these beds using natural materials (peat, leaves, spruce, or compost). This layer in the spring, when the last frosts pass, should be removed, as this can provoke a "greenhouse effect", as a result of which the teeth will rot or weld.

In addition to the earlier maturing period, planting garlic before winter saves truck farmers from problems to equip storage for harvested crops in the summer.
