Plum Stenley

Juicy and aromatic plums are used fresh or used to make delicious jam . Of course, urban residents are forced to buy fruits in the market or in the store. But those who have a backyard or cottage can grow their own plums. In addition, the variety of varieties allows everyone to choose what is most to their liking. We'll tell you about the sink of Stanley.

Characteristics of the "Stanley" plum variety

A fine variety was bred in the US lands by American breeders when pollinating the Prune Agen variety with the Grand Duque. Due to a number of advantages, the "Stanley" plum variety has become widespread throughout the world.

The seedlings of the Stenley plum have a height of 110-130 cm. The tree grows quickly, becoming a round, but rather rare, crown. The leaves have an oblong-oval shape with jagged edges. In the spring, the fruits begin to develop on the spot of white flowers. Generally, "Stanley" is a late-ripening plum, fruit ripening occurs in the first ten days of September.

Plums themselves have an ovoid shape. The dense smooth skin has a dark blue with a gray-whitish tint of color. Under it is a yellow dense flesh with a sweet taste. The fruits are large - their weight reaches 40-50 g. A bone of oblong form is separated from the pulp with some difficulty.

If we talk about the advantages of the variety "Stanley", then there are a lot of them. First, the plum early comes into fruiting - the first cream appears on the trees for a second or third year after planting. Secondly, pollinators of the Stanley do not need pollinators, since they are self-pollinating. Thirdly, with proper care, trees give a lot of fruits. From one adult tree you can get up to 60 kg of harvest! In addition, experts note the high quality of fruits, assessing the content of pectins, sugars and vitamins. Fourthly, the "Stanley" can be characterized as a winter-hardy variety, it is able to withstand a cooling to -25 degrees without shelter. Fifth, unlike most plums, the described variety is rather drought-resistant.

Of course, there are drawbacks. The main type of "Stanley" is a weak resistance to moniliasis, in which the shoots of the shoots dry out, and then the death of the fruit. At the same time, the plum from American breeders is resistant to shark and polystigmosis.

How to care for the "Stanley" plum?

Planting plum "Stanley" is carried out either in spring in April, or in autumn in October. For this, a bright and sunny place is selected, which is protected from cold winds. Plum is suitable fertile soil, possibly loam.

For the plum, planting pits are depthed to half a meter for a couple of weeks before the purchase of seedlings. The distance between the pits should reach at least 2.5 m, preferably 3 m. To improve soil fertility, the soil is mixed with organic (eg humus) in a ratio of 2: 1. When planting, the roots are straightened. Make sure that the root neck is 2-3 cm above the ground, and the seedling is planted vertically. If necessary, close the stake, to which you can then tie a sink. The tree is sprinkled with earth, pritaptyvayut. After planting, the seedlings of the Stenley plum need watering (use a bucket of water) and mulching.

Like all other representatives of the domestic plum, the variety "Stanley" requires timely watering and fertilization. In the spring, sanitary and shaping pruning is mandatory. However, thanks to a thin crown, the sort described does not require such efforts as some others. In addition, before bud blossoming, do not forget to arrange treatment with fungicide or biological product from diseases and pests.
