Interior paint

It's very easy to get confused in the variety of materials on the market for finishing the house, all the sellers insist that it is their interior paints that are the best. But then it turns out that they completely do not correspond to the written parameters, spoil from water or have an intolerable smell. Therefore, here we list the most widely used types of dyes for interior decoration, so that the buyer is not lost in the store when buying the right products on the eve of a lot of home repair.

Why paint is divided into different types?

When we apply the coloring composition to the surface, we obtain the thinnest film consisting of three components. They mainly affect the most important characteristics of interior paint. The first substance is a carrier evaporating shortly after applying the material to the ceiling, furniture or walls. The second element is the pigment responsible for the coloring. The third component, which is always present in paints, is a binder that allows the fine particles of the pigment to adhere to the surface. In this review, we will divide the paint into species depending on the substrate.

Types of interior paint:

  1. Oil paint.
  2. Such products are produced on the basis of drying oil, once it had no competitors and was very popular. The paint dries very long, the coating "does not breathe" and for a long time gives off an unpleasant odor. A thorough preliminary cleaning of the surface is needed, otherwise the beautiful film obtained will be swollen. The cost of oil compositions is quite attractive. In addition, the oily formulations are safe for health, have a low consumption, they penetrate well into the wood and have excellent resistance to chemistry.

  3. Water-based paint based on PVA.
  4. The basis of all water-dispersed compounds is ordinary water, which makes them attractive for finishing the residential building. Polyvinyl acetate formulations are the cheapest variety. There is, both matte and glossy interior water-based paint. Apply this inexpensive and quite high-quality products for the treatment of walls made of plasterboard and wooden structures, plasters, porous materials.

It is not recommended to paint these products with metal products and glossy facades. The second drawback of this interior paint is the instability to water, because of this it is recommended to be used for the treatment of walls and ceiling exclusively in dry rooms.

  5. Acrylic water-based paints.
  6. Water is also a diluent, but polyacrylates (polymers of methyl, ethyl and butyl acrylates) form a film-forming substance. Fresh compounds are easy to remove, but after drying, the decorative layer is not afraid of wet cleaning. Still, we note that for bathrooms and kitchens is worth looking for other reliable colors.

  7. Alkyd Enamel.
  8. In the production of such compounds, alkyd varnishes of two types are used: glyptal and pentaphthalic, and also an organic solvent. This mixture allows you to get after painting a durable and rather beautiful coating, it is recommended to apply, both for internal works and on the street. Washable alkyd interior paint does not suffer any precipitation, it does not wear off, it's normal serves in the bathroom , ideal for processing doors, windows, various furniture. It dries quickly, but solvents emit unpleasant smells about a day, which is a drawback.

  9. Latex paints.
  10. Excellent modern latex compositions are different. There are water-dispersion latex paints and acrylic-latex water-dispersion paints. Acrylate materials are slightly more expensive, but more qualitative, such interior paint is almost ideal for kitchens, for processing walls and ceilings in the corridor or bathrooms.
