The Christmas fast lasts exactly forty days. It begins yearly on the twenty-eighth of November and lasts until January 7th. Throughout this period, believers are required to observe certain restrictions and rules.
It so happened that many Orthodox Christian holidays and fasts have their own customs and prohibitions. Each such tradition is the bearer of certain knowledge that has been accumulated for centuries by our distant ancestors. In order not to sin in the Nativity Fast, one should give up much, including solemn measures.
Is it possible to marry a Christmas post?
Wedding in the great Christmas post is an event not desirable for a number of reasons. Church representatives claim that it is not worth to marry and conduct a wedding ceremony during this period. In order to understand whether it is possible to marry in the Nativity Fast, it is necessary to study the church canons. According to them, fasting is necessary for the following purposes:
- to pacify your spirit in terms of food. This will strengthen not only the will of man, but also cleanse his physical body;
- for the ability to control their desires. This primarily relates to intimacy. During the fast, a ban is imposed on her. During this period it is necessary to think about the light and sublime, forgetting about all the bliss of earthly life.
In accordance with this, it becomes clear why one can not play a wedding in the Nativity Fast. Young obviously sin, fulfilling in this period the conjugal duty, giving in to gluttony and celebrations.
