Germany, Bavaria, Linderhov 12, 82488 Ettal - this is the exact address of the castle Linderhov, a charming place, which the Germans themselves adore and tourists coming to the country. The castle was built by the dreamy and impressionable king of Bavaria Ludwig II. Ever since childhood, the king has painted palaces of magical beauty, in his youth was taken seriously in architecture, and once he saw the magnificent Palace of Versailles, he decided to repeat this greatest work of architecture - eventually he built the castle Linderhof.
The history of the castle Linderhof
Conceived by Ludwig II, the castles of Bavaria - Linderhof, Neuschweißen and Herrenchiemsee are delighted with their scope and grandeur, unfortunately, the King himself could only admire Linderhof, since only his construction was completed during the lifetime of the ruler. Work began in 1869 and lasted until 1886, all this time designers and builders regularly traveled to France, for a detailed study of the palace in Versailles. As a result, thanks to painstaking work and huge funds spent (in terms of modern money more than 4 million euros), the Linderhof Palace in Germany was perfected.
Internal arrangement of the castle
The interior of the Linderhof Castle is built in such a way that nothing would interfere with the rest and peace of the king. In the center is the ruler's bedroom, it is huge - only the bed in it occupies almost seven square meters. Also in the interior there are ten symmetrical halls, of which only four had their purpose. The mirror room, creating the impression of an infinite space, served as a living room. The tapestry hall, filled with exquisite furniture, paintings, porcelain peacocks and tapestries depicting scenes from a shepherd's life, served as a music salon. The reception hall became a private office for Ludwig II, from the remarkable in it one can see tables of malachite and a throne decorated with feathers of the ostrich. The dining hall is worthy of special attention - its peculiarity is that even here the servant did not interfere with the king. The table with the help of the mechanism fell down, there it was served and raised. Another feature of the Linderhof castle in Germany is the dedication to the King of France Louis XIV, which was for Ludwig II an idol, his portraits and busts can be seen everywhere. Also throughout the palace are depicted peacocks, which were for Ludwig II a symbol of the sun.

Another favorite place for tourists in Linderhof is the Grotto of Venus. It is an artificially constructed cave ten meters high. Surprisingly, it served as a place for staging the operas of the great Wagner. On the artificial lake in the Grotto of Venus swam swans, nymphs and a boat in the shape of a bowl, which sang arias singer. A special highlight was the unique backlight for those times - the electric generator rotated colored glass plates, creating incredible lighting effects.

Before you reach the castle of Linderhof, you need to get to the small town of Oberammergau. From there it remains to drive a little over 12km by bus number 9622. From April to September, the castle is open for tourists from 9.00 to 18.00, from October to March from 10.00 to 16.00. If you decide to visit Linderhof in the winter, you need to know that at this time of year only the palace is open to visitors. By the way, every year on August 24 in Ludwig II's Birthday in Oberammergau you can see a salute in honor of the King of Bavaria.
