Luc Besson is punished for plagiarism

Luc Besson and his company Europacorp were at the center of the scandal and were punished for plagiarism.

Legal action

John Carpenter, argued that the unscrupulous colleague, took the idea for the tape "Fat" from his film "Escape from New York." The American director is sure that not only the main idea of the film was stolen, but also the images of the central heroes.

The court's decision

The experts considered Carpenter's argument to be sound and reasonable, and the court of Paris pronounced the verdict on Besson, recognizing the director as guilty of plagiarism, appointing him to pay a fine of 10,000 euros.

Luke did not shoot "Hard", but participated in writing the script for the picture. In addition to him, the same amount of fine was awarded to other authors James Mater and Stefan Saint-Leger. The three of them must transfer the monetary compensation (in the amount of 10,000 euros) to Nick Cassus, who wrote the script for "Runaway," and director Carpenter (20,000 euros). The company Studiocanal, which owns the right to hire a tape, will receive 50,000 euros from the French side.

It is worth adding that the court verdict upset John Carpenter, as he wanted to get more solid compensation from the defendants. In his statement of claim, the amount of 3 million euros was indicated.
