Manoel Island

Manoel Island is the administrative unit of the city of Gzira in Malta and is located in the harbor of Marsamxhette. It is separated from the "big earth" by a canal, the width of which is fifteen to twenty meters, and is connected by a stone bridge. Here nobody lives and there are no houses, but there is a yacht club, a medieval fort and a duck farm. Although the island is located near the noisy tourist cities, but there is always a quiet and calm atmosphere, and the azure surface of the sea and picturesque landscapes will please any tourist.

What to see on the skeleton?

Duck farm on Manoel Island

Near the bridge, on the left, on Manoel Island is a village called Duck Village. This is a small corner of the coastal zone where various pets live. The main inhabitants, of course, are ducks, but there are other inhabitants here: swans, chickens with roosters, as well as fluffy rabbits and, leading a measured lifestyle, cats. Near the fence on the duck farm there is an urn for donations, and on the outskirts of Duck Village there is even a cemetery for its inhabitants. When you're on Manoel Island, do not pass the bird's town - this is one of the most memorable places on the island.

Fort Manoel on the island

If you continue on the island of Manoel, then the path will lead you to the medieval eponymous fort with an area of five hundred thousand square meters. In the fifteenth century, the fort was one of the most powerful military fortifications in Europe. It is made in the Baroque style, it has the shape of a square with four bastions, which, with their outlines, resemble a star.

Since 1998, there have been major restoration works, which are still not finished, and there is no way to get to the fortress territory. Only an external inspection is allowed. By the way, on the territory of the strengthening, some scenes from the series "The Game of Thrones" were filmed. The island also plans to build a housing complex: a hotel for two hundred people and houses, as well as a casino, a public park, an upgraded berth for yachts and boats.

Royal Yacht Club on Manoel Island

Not far from the fort on the island of Manoel is the famous Maltese Royal Yacht Club (Royal Malta Yacht Club). It is located on the right, if you walk along the bridge, from Sliema , and on the left you can see berthing facilities and repair docks. They provide repairs and hibernation for a huge number of ships. The Yacht Club is closed to an ordinary tourist, and it's not easy to get there, but nobody forbids to admire elite boats. If vacationers have a desire to swim in the sea at sunset or just admire the azure water, then rent a vessel of any class will not be difficult. This can be done individually or collectively.

The local climate creates ideal conditions for sailing for a year. A huge number of yachting races are held here from April to November. The prevailing wind makes sailing boats unforgettable, and sirocco and mistral provide the right strength. This is a great place, both for beginner yachtsmen, and for more experienced sea wolves.
