Rubens House


The Belgian city of Antwerp is firmly associated with the name of Peter Paul Rubens. Here everything is reminiscent of the life and work of the great artist. First of all, it concerns the house-museum, in which the creator once lived.

Collection of the house-museum

The Rubens House-Museum in Antwerp can not be called a memorial since there are few works of the artist and objects from his numerous collection. The following exhibits are of the greatest interest:

The house museum partially recreated the dining room, in which the Rubens family gathered in the evenings. There is even a pitcher with the inscription "1593", which supposedly belonged to the artist. The walls of the dining room are decorated with paintings written by his friends. On the second floor of the house of Rubens there are living rooms that once belonged to members of his family. Here stands the dean's chair, on the reverse side of which the name of the artist is ousted. Here is the artist's studio with huge windows that fill the room with sunlight. The decoration of the workshop is a marble fireplace, as well as paintings. Two paintings "Annunciation" and "The Moorish Tsar" belong to the hand of Rubens himself. How to get there?

The Rubens House in Belgium is located on a small street of Wapper, next to which lie the streets of Schuttershofstraat and Hopland. You can reach this part of Antwerp by tram, following the Antwerpen Premetrostation Meir or Antwerpen Teniers on the route 3, 5, 9 or 15. Alternatively, take the bus and go to the Antwerpen Meirbrug or Antwerpen Teniers stop. The stops are about 5-7 minutes walk from the landmark .
