Savin-Cook


Savin-Cook is a mountain peak in Montenegro , in the territory of Durmitor National Park . This is not the highest peak in the country , but one of the most popular among tourists, since it offers a stunningly beautiful view of the Lake Plateau, Bear Peak, the Great and Lesser Valleys. Landscapes that open the view from this peak are a kind of "trademark" of both the National Park and the whole of Montenegro, they are often depicted on all kinds of advertising booklets. In addition, the mountain is known for its cable car.

Historical reference

The name Mount Savin-Cook was given in honor of the Serbian prince Rastko Nemanich, who was given the monastic name Savva, one of the most revered saints of the Serbian Orthodox Church. According to the legend, it was here that Savva settled himself in solitude to meditate and pray. It is also believed that it was the saint who discovered the source, the water in which, in the spring, after the snow falls, has healing properties. The spring today bears the name of Sawa.

Ascending the Savin-Cook

Savin-Cook is a popular peak for climbing. There are several routes to it. The most popular starts from the Black Lake , passes by sources Izvor, Tochak and Polyany Mioch. Then the trackers pass by the source of Savina water and begin the ascent to the very top.

The difference in heights on this route is about 900 m. The entire journey takes about 4 hours. The route is relatively uncomplicated, and it climbs year round, but in late autumn and winter strong winds prevail here, on the slopes lies snow, sometimes very deep, and at high altitudes the air temperature is very low. The optimal time for the ascent is from June to October.

Skiing

The ski center Savin-Kuk is one of the most inexpensive in the Balkans, however it offers a variety of roads and very good quality. There are both descents for those who just got on skis (including individual children's tracks), and extreme. Some trails are illuminated at night.

The length of the longest skiing route is 3.5 km. The total length of the trails is about 12 km. The altitude difference is 750 m. There is also a snowboarding track.

Cable car

The lift works all year round, because not only ski lovers use it, but also those who want to admire the beautiful views from the top, but do not want or can not make a foot climb. The cable car starts to work at 9:00, sometimes - if there are many people wishing to go up - before. The ticket costs 7 euros.

How to get to the ski lift?

The distance from the town of Zabljak to the ski lift is about 4 km. You can get to P14 in 10-12 minutes. You can choose another route - first to go on Tripka Džakovića, and then continue driving on P14, in this case the road will take about 13 minutes. The taxi will cost about 5-6 euros. You can walk and walk, the road will take about 40 minutes.
