Kongens Nyutorv


The Kongens Nytorv Square, or the "New King Square" is a public square in the center of Copenhagen , which is at the end of Stroeget Street . This is the largest area of ​​the city, it was made in connection with the expansion of the city by the order of King Christian V in 1670 - his equestrian statue adorns the square and now, four centuries later. On the main square there are 13 streets of the city.

If you come to Copenhagen in the winter, then you will see a public ice rink on the square where there is skate rental and you can ride for free on the picturesque square around the statue of King Christian; if you arrived in June - you can get to the ball of school graduates.

What should I look for?

The most striking architectural structure is the Royal Theater (Det Kongelige Teater) in a neo-Renaissance style. Before the entrance are two sculptures of the Danish theater figures Holberg and Elenschlager. The theater is still famous for the world forge of the staff of the Danish ballet - the "Bournonville School". Behind the building you can see the Charlottenborg Slot, completely rebuilt for the wife of King Christian V - Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel, now the Danish Royal Academy of Fine Arts is located here.

At the corner of the square and Bredgade street stands the building of the French embassy, ​​which was originally built for Admiral Niels Jewel. Also on the square there is a beautiful white building of the five-star Hotel Dangleterre and the central department store of the city Magasin du Nord.
