Rosenborg Castle

Throughout the world, Denmark is rightly called the country of castles . On the territory of this relatively small state there are about six hundred. At the same time, the building styles are very diverse. And one of the most important and famous historical and cultural monuments of Denmark is the Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen .

The castle is located on the outskirts of the capital, on the territory of the Royal Garden. Green plantations were planted shortly before the construction of the castle, and the park itself contains some elements in the Renaissance style. This makes the neighborhood of the palace truly fabulous and seems to be transferred to another era.

History of the castle of Rosenborg in Denmark

Rosenborg was built according to the idea of the King of Denmark, Christian IV, and dates from its construction in 1606-1634. The architect was Hans Steenwinkel the Younger, but the style was largely determined by the drawings of the king himself. Thought the castle as a summer residence and served as such until the moment when Frederick IV built Frederiksborg in 1710. Since that time the palace was visited by monarchs only a few times with the purpose of holding official receptions. And only twice it became the official residence of the Kings - in 1794, after the fire at the Christiansborg Palace, and in 1801, during a massive bombardment by the British fleet.

Rosenborg as a repository of royal heritage

As a museum, the castle began its existence as early as 1838. In order to acquaint the Danes with the national history and the royal dynasty, the pantry of the palace was opened. The public was also restored to the public, restored in its original form halls, the decoration of the castle and the hereditary family values. The castle of Rosenborg keeps in itself the real treasures of the nation - both spiritual and material. There are royal regalia, and the key object of the Long Hall of the Palace is a pair of royal thrones. By the way, they are guarded by three heraldic lions. The material for the king's throne was the narwhal's tooth, and the throne of the queen was made of silver.

The interiors of the castle impress with its decoration. On the ceiling of the throne room is the coat of arms of Denmark, and the walls are decorated with 12 tapestries that depict the scenes of the war with Sweden, in which Denmark won. Another impressive place in Rosenborg is directly the storehouse of royal values. Represented here are not only symbols of power, but also monarchs gathered jewelry, historical and cultural monuments.
