Canyon of Komarnitsa

Where the two Voinik and Durmitor mountain ranges meet in Montenegro and the Komarnitsa River flows, Canyon Nevidio Canyon was formed.

Description of the gorge

Local residents for the inaccessibility, unknown and concealed danger often call it the Unexpected Miracle (čudo neviđeno) or the Invisible God (Neviđ Bog), hence the name went. The canyon was discovered by talented alpinists from Niksic in 1965, before that, all attempts to overcome the gorge ended in failure. This valley was the last unexplored in Europe.

The canyon has a total length of about 4 km, the width varies from half a meter to 500 m, and the cliffs reach up to 450 m in height. The sun's rays rarely reach the bottom of the cave even in good weather.

The river in these places is rather meandering and has a strong current, which is accompanied by a large number of waterfalls, deep pockets and water rapids. Komarnitsa originates from the southern side of the village of Dobri Do, at first its course is smooth and calm, and near the rocks it becomes turbulent and impassable.

Near the village of Poschenya is located one of the most picturesque places in the whole country. Here you can see two crystal clear mountain ponds, the 100-meter-high Skakavica waterfall, formed at the confluence of the Komarnitsa and Grabovitsa rivers, as well as other natural beauties. The water temperature in the lakes never rises above + 7 ° C.

Nevideo Canyon in Montenegro is considered to be the most impregnable in the country, and it is almost impossible to get to it without specific training, and only professionals will be able to overcome certain areas. One of the most dangerous zones is called "Kamikaze Gate", here the width of the gorge is 25 cm.
