Museum of cars


The Principality of Monaco is interesting not only for the luxurious beaches and the many restaurants for any choice. In a small state there are attractions and museums , and in addition to yachts, residents also love luxury cars. In Monaco, there is even a chic museum of cars on the territory of the Commercial Center - a personal meeting of His Grace.

This museum is a unique collection of old cars of the Grimaldi family on an area of ​​about 4,000 square meters, it is little known, but it will be interesting for everyone and not only motorists, but especially children.

What to see?

You will see machines of different ages, created at different times by major manufacturers in Europe and the USA. In the museum there are about a hundred cars, they were collected and restored by Prince Rainier III, the father of the now ruling prince Albert II. He was an avid motorist and collected and restored this collection for about 30 years. Tourists are represented by horse carriages, vintage cars, military transport, classic and representative models, a special pride of the collection - Hispano Suiza in 1928 and excellent growling Cadillac 1653. History lovers will be pleased with six carriages bearing the coat of arms of the princely family.

The oldest car of the collection - De Dion Bouton - more than a hundred years old, it was released in 1903. This is the first purchase of the prince, the second was bought by Renault Torpedo in 1911 of release. Also there are such shining examples of technology as Ford T 1924, Bugatti 1929, Rolls Royce 1952, Kreisler-Imperial 1956, Lamborghini Countach 1986. A separate exhibition tells the story of the Formula-1 in Monaco, which takes place every year on the Monte Carlo track . In addition to cars, the exhibition has a separate place for the collection of posters and gloves of racers.

In the famous collection there are samples of such brands as Packard, Citroën, Peugeot, Lincoln, most of the cars are manufactured in the first half of the 20th century. You will be introduced to all stages of the history of the automotive industry. However, in 2012 the prince sold 38 cars at an auction with the purpose of buying in the future new auto objects.

How to visit?

The Renier Museum of Old Cars is open every day from ten to six. Close the museum only on Catholic Christmas on December 25. The price of an adult ticket is € 6, children from 8 to 14 years old - € 3, up to 6 - admission is free.

You can get there by a convenient bus on route No. 5 or No. 6 in the direction of Fontvielle (Fontvieille) to the Center Commerciale Fontvieille stop. Focus on McDonald's in the neighborhood, where after the museum you can eat and share your impressions. Walking fans can stroll about 20 minutes from the Casino Square , where the world-famous Monte Carlo Casino is located, or leisurely walk a couple of kilometers from the train station.
