The Zimmer Tower

The Zimmer tower in Antwerp is known to many as the Cornelius tower. Interestingly, originally in the 14th century it was part of the fortifications that protect the city from enemy attacks. But in 1930, an astronomer, and at the same time a watchmaker, Louis Zimmer (Louis Zimmer) built on her front a rather unusual clock (the Jubilee Clock). Let's talk more about this important Belgian landmark .

Features of architecture

First of all, it is worth paying attention to the above-mentioned clockwork mechanism. So, it consists of 12 small hours with 57 dials. Their main feature is that they show time on all continents. In addition, the phases of the moon, the time of tides and tides, as well as many other phenomena, should be added to this.

On this miracle does not end: next to the tower is a pavilion, the idea of creation of which belongs to the same Louis Zimmer. On it around the dial very, very slowly moves the arrow, which personifies the axis of the Earth. It is worth noting that its full turnover will happen after much more, but 25800 years.

At the foot of the Zimmer tower in Antwerp, you can admire the exposition called "The Solar System", which was created with the help of metal rings symbolizing the orbits of planets, and balls representing the Sun and the planets themselves. There is an asteroid Felix (named after the writer Felix Timmermans) and watchmaker Louis Zimmer.

How to get there?

Before the stop Lier Markthalte, which is located near the tower, there are the following buses: №2, 3, 90, 150, 152, 297, 560 or 561.
