The tower of Sowabelen

The Tour de Sauvabelin (Tour de Sauvabelin) is one of the main attractions of Lausanne and is one of the best observation sites not only in Switzerland , but also throughout Europe. It is located in the same forest Sauvabelin Forest, just 3 km north of the train station of Lausanne.

According to the idea of the builders, the tower was to become a symbol of the beginning of the new millennium. This 35-meter wooden beauty was built in 2003, and already in December of this year began to meet its first visitors. The new attraction of Lausanne was received with cheers by the residents and guests of the city, as evidenced by almost 100 thousand visitors for the first year of its work.

What is interesting about the tower?

For the construction of the tower, only local coniferous trees were used - spruce, pine and larch. The roof of the tower is made of copper. On the observation deck, visitors can climb a spiral staircase, numbering 302 steps. Having passed exactly half of them and stopping to rest, you can read the 151 names of those who contributed to the construction of the tower. As soon as you ascend to the very top of the Tour de Sauvabelin tower, you will see stunning scenery. The viewing platform allows you to see the panorama at the same time to Lausanne, Lake Geneva and the majestic snow-capped Alps . This fascinating contemplation of the beauties of Lausanne literally in a moment will make you forget about the done way, and the road back will pass unnoticed.
