If you want to look more broadly at this country, plunge into its history, then you should definitely visit the glorious town in the south of the principality - Sant Julia de Loria.

A bit of history

Tobacco business is a local attraction, because with him are closely linked the lives of many family clans. Museo del Tabaco is the main attraction of the town of Sant Julia de Loria in Andorra. The initiator of the creation of the museum was the Julia Reig Foundation, founded in 1999. The Julia Reig Foundation is a non-profit organization whose main goal is the development of Andorra as a modern country. The idea of ​​creating the museum was to collect on the crumbs the history of tobacco business in Andorra and at the same time to restore the old walls of the factory, where this story began.

The museum is housed in the building of a former tobacco factory, which began its work in 1909, the Old Reigate, better known as the "Kal Rafelo". Visitors are presented with a diverse program: first you will be given a detailed tour of the factory territory, which will tell you about the process of tobacco production, machines involved in the work, the organization of the work process, how production changed during the global mechanization in the 30s of the XX century. A tour of the factory is accompanied by two voices: female and male, which will tell in detail about each section of the exposition.

The museum exposition is divided into four groups:

  1. Tobacco growing on the tobacco field. Preparation of leaves. You will be led through the tobacco field, where you will be told in detail about tobacco varieties, the subtleties of its growing, collecting, storing, preparing leaves for the next stages of production.
  2. Processing of leaves. Management of the factory. Work at the factory. The second part of the exhibition highlights the process of leaf processing, the organization of the working process in the factory and the subtleties of the management of the factory.
  3. Manufacture of cigars. The manufacture of tobacco for a long time remained manual laborious work and to this day it is believed that the best cigars - a cigar, hand-rolled. Here you will learn about the technologies of tobacco processing, get acquainted with the ancient tools used in production.
  4. Tobacco in the world market. You will learn about the most popular and expensive varieties of tobacco, about the intricacies of marketing.

Temporary expositions:

The museum has allocated two rooms in which there are various temporary exhibitions and events, which you can learn in advance. Here, the works of artists Pablo Picasso and Rembrandt van Rijn have been presented, as well as major photo exhibitions that will help to look the visitor to Andorra through the eyes of photographers.

How to get there and when to visit?

One and the best museums of Andorra opens its doors from 10.00 to 20.00 hours from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10.00 to 14.30 hours on Sunday, on Mondays the museum is closed. The last group of visitors can go 1.5 hours before closing. The maximum group is 25 people. There is a wardrobe, shops, cafeteria, an outdoor terrace.

Entrance fee: 5 euros, with a 30% discount the museum can be visited by pensioners, students and groups of more than 20 people. Children under 8 can visit the museum for free.
