Museum of Folk Art and Traditions

History of the museum

The Museum of Folk Art and Traditions in Bruges occupies several buildings from the 17th century, which once housed a hotel, private apartments and a shoemaking workshop. Here was the almshouse guild of the clothers. The museum was organized by members of the Association of Western Flemish People and the famous physicist Guillaume Michiels. It was they who donated some of the exhibits from their own collections.
