Observation in the hospital - what is it?

Many women, when preparing to become mothers, quite often ask a question about what this is an observation and there is such separation in each maternity home.

The term "observational" is often used in gynecology and obstetrics, in Latin it means "observation", ie, "observation". the place where a woman in childbirth is placed with a suspicion of a disease, or with already existing disorders.

This department is also called the second obstetrics ward. From the women in childbirth, often, instead of "observing", one can hear an infectious separation, which is also partly correct.

Who is sent to the observatory?

Patients of this department have any disability, which prevents them from being placed with healthy mothers. As a rule, these are various kinds of chronic diseases, as well as those that have an infectious etiology.

However, contrary to the prevalent opinion among pregnant women, women who are ill with tuberculosis and AIDS can not be found in the observatory in the hospital. Typically, these patients are placed in separate boxes.

Childbirth in the observation is carried out also to those pregnant women who, on admission, had elevated body temperature. In addition, patients of such departments are often women with acute and chronic infections of the genital tract, pustular and fungal diseases of the skin, hair, nails.

Also in this department are sent to those expectant mothers who were treated with "street" or "home" births, as well as those pregnant women who during the observation refused the prescribed examinations and tests, without following the medical instructions.

How is the therapeutic process organized in observing?

Not all of the women who give birth in observance know that in this department there is a special regime. So, many patients are assigned a bed rest, so all prescribed nurse procedures are performed directly in the ward.

In this department, the change of bed linen, as well as the cleaning of the chambers is carried out more often than usual.

As a rule, women who gave birth in the observance, almost immediately separated from the newborn, i.e. kids are not with moms in one room. In such cases, breastfeeding is impossible. However, in those cases when the disease that caused the pregnant woman to be kept in an observation is out of the acute stage, the baby can be breastfed. Mom brings the child through fixed time intervals, and almost immediately taken after he eats to reduce the amount of time spent by the baby in the observatory.

Visits of women in treatment in the observatory are completely prohibited. Relatives and relatives of the future mother have the opportunity only to give her the transfer.

How long can a woman be in the observatory?

Often pregnant women are interested in the question concerning the duration of a possible stay in the observatory department. Unequivocal answer to it can not be given, because all depends on the type of disease and the severity of its symptoms.

In most cases, the length of stay of a woman who has already given birth in such departments does not increase 7-10 days. This time is enough to localize the inflammatory or infectious process and restore the mother's body.

Thus, it must be said that sending a woman to the observatory does not mean that she will be near the "infectious" patients. It is worth noting the fact that in such an institution all sanitary rules and norms are strictly observed, which excludes the possibility of transmission of the disease.
