Officially, the birth of a hole punch for paper took place in November 1886. It was then that the German inventor and entrepreneur Friedrich Zennekken applied for a patent for a hole punch. But even 89 years before that, the German philosopher Immanuel Kant was making holes in personal papers with the help of the invented punch. From the product of Friedrich Zennekken, Kant's hole punch featured a larger diameter of the punched hole - 11.6 mm against 5 mm.

Types of Paper Punching Machines

Based on the purpose and scope of use, punching tools for paper can be divided into office and figured (decorative).

Office Paper Punching Machines

Office are designed for making two holes with a diameter of 5 mm along the edge of the sheet at a distance of 80 mm from each other. They differ from each other, they usually only punching ability, that is, the number of sheets simultaneously being able to overcome. Thus, the most "weak" punch-holes can cope immediately with 5 sheets of paper, and large industrial models are quite capable of breaking a pack of 300 sheets at a time. For convenience of use, office punchers are usually equipped with special rulers that allow them to properly place sheets of paper of different formats in them, and also have a capacity for collecting waste.

Decorative Paper Punchers

Decorative punchers find their use scrapbooking, as well as in other similar types of creativity. Just like their office counterparts, decorative punch holes punch in sheets of paper of varying density holes. But unlike office workers, the result of using a figured punch looks much more interesting. There are the following types of decorative paper punching:

  1. Figured punchers are designed to squeeze holes on the paper in the form of various figures, starting from the simplest geometric shapes (square, circle, rectangle) and ending with the silhouettes of people and animals. The most primitive of them allow you to make holes of only one type, and more complex models are equipped with different attachments, through which one can squeeze out several images at once. More often, figured paper punchers are equipped with a special storage that serves to collect the squeezed figures. Thus, with their help you can get not only a beautiful openwork pattern on a piece of paper, but a material for amusing applications. In addition, some of the figured punchers are equipped with embossing function, which allows to achieve a rather interesting effect.
  2. Angular punch holes allow you to create beautiful openwork patterns on the corners of sheets. They are simply not replaceable with the design of various photo albums and memorabilia.
  3. Curb punchers are designed for openwork of the edges of the sheet. With their help you can decorate both ordinary rectangular sheets, and various figured products, for example, paper napkins or Christmas snowflakes.
  4. Magnetic paper punchers have a special advantage, because thanks to the magnetic mechanism they can be installed not only on the edge or the corner of the sheet, but in any part of it. Thoughtful layout allows using them to create openwork drawings of any complexity: circles, squares, ovals and spirals.
