Uthuruku

The southwestern part of Bolivia is adorned with the beautiful and at the same time very dangerous volcano Utruska (Uturuncu), which is located on the plateau of Altipano. Simple people about him little is known, but well-known seismologists are seriously concerned about the unprecedented activity of the volcano, which has recently manifested itself more often. In this article, we will try to find out whether there is a likelihood of an eruption of Uthuruku, and what threatens this event of Bolivia and neighboring states.

Highest point of the country

Volcano Uthuruku has two peaks, the height of each of which reaches about 6008 m. This makes the volcano the highest point of Bolivia. The last volcanic eruption was recorded more than 300 thousand years ago, but today scientists note its growing activity. The territory of Utturku is covered with deposits from pyroclastic flows, in terms of which it is possible to judge the thickness of the last eruption. According to scientific data, there is a possibility of a powerful release of magma, in strength and destructiveness similar to the eruption of the Yellowstone caldera.

Are fears justified?

Today, volcanologists around the world are studying Uthuruku. Their recent studies have shown that the growth of the magmatic reservoir has begun, which can lead to a catastrophe. Hypotheses of scientists confirm daily small earthquakes, elevation of soil in the area of the volcano to 20 cm, periodic fluctuations of the earth's surface and tremors. Despite the alarming calls, experts try to remain calm, because it is not known for sure if the eruption of Uthuruku will happen in the near future, or the apocalypse will happen after thousands of years.

Currently, experts are studying the changes taking place along the shoreline and the delta of lakes located in the southern and eastern parts of the volcano. If the soil continues its growth, then it is possible to predict with confidence the impending eruption of Uthuruku.
