Royal Park Beloom


In the north of Malaysia, in the state of Perak, in the vast expanses of the famous Royal Park of Belum (Royal Belum State Park). This reserve consists of water systems, including rivers, lakes and waterfalls, pristine rainforests, several abandoned farmlands and pastures. There is also a large artificial lake Tasik Temenggor.

Features of the park Beloom

The Belum Forest Reserve covers an area of ​​more than 290,000 hectares. This largest array of Malaysia consists of two areas:

Thanks to the fact that the leadership of the state of Perak, in charge of this reserve, decided to turn it into a place for scientific research, the nature in the Royal Park Belum still remains almost untouched today.

In the park there are several picturesque waterfalls.

Lake Temenggor

In the 70-ies of the last century in the park Belum flooded 150 square meters. km of the jungle and built a dam. Thus, a lake was formed, the din of which is 80 km, the width is 5 km, and the maximum depth is 124 m. An artificial island was built in the middle of this reservoir, the third largest in Malaysia.

Flora and fauna of the Royal Park Belum

In the pristine forests of the reserve there live rare large animals: Malay tigers, tapirs, Sumatran rhinoceroses, Asian elephants. Here you can see 247 different bird species. There are 23 species of freshwater fish in Lake Temenggor, which makes these places especially attractive for fishing enthusiasts.

In the Royal Park Belum grow some plants that are not found anywhere else in the world. For example, only in the tropical jungles of Malaysia you can find amazing rafflesia. This parasitic plant exudes a malodorous cadaveric odor, but it is very beautiful externally, therefore, without exception, tourists are eager to see this largest flower in the world. Today in the Belum park there are three types of rafflesia.

Also here you can see 46 species of palm trees, 64 species of ferns, 3000 species of flowering plants, and 30 species of ginger plants.

How to get to the Royal Park Belum?

For those who want to get to Belum park by car, the easiest way to get here from the western part of the peninsular Malaysia. First, head for Butterworth along the North-South Highway. From there, go to the highway VKE. Moving along it, pass the cities of Baling and Greak. After reaching the east-west highway, follow it to Temenggor Dam, and in 2,5 hours you will arrive to Belum park.
