Tsitarum River

How many beautiful things can you see by visiting the Republic of Indonesia ! The amazing world of the jungle, the valley of volcanoes , springs and waterfalls , the mysterious and unique underwater world. Do not count and all man-made monuments of architecture and history. But, like in the rest of the world, Indonesia has a semblance of anti-sights, which remind us daily of the fragility and value of our world. One of such unattractive objects is the Tsitarum River.

The reservoir that shocked

Tsitarum (or Chitarum) is the name of the river flowing in Indonesia through the territory of West Java Province. The total length of the river is about 300 km, then it flows into the Yavan Sea. The depth of the river does not exceed 5 m, and the average width - 10 m. At present, the Tsitarum River in Indonesia is the dirtiest river on the planet. The gradual pollution of the entire river basin is the result of a disastrous and aggressive human activity for nature.

The water artery plays a major role in the life of every inhabitant of the region. The Tsitarum River feeds all agricultural land, and is also used for water supply, industry, sewerage of settlements, etc.

The Board of the Asian Bank has allocated a loan of $ 500 million to clear the entire channel from pollution. The bank's management called the Tsitarum River the dirtiest river in the world. There is no garbage processing plant nearby.

Many travelers are simply appalled to see this sad sight firsthand. Local flora and fauna is almost completely ruined.

How to get to the river?

The Tsitarum River flows about 30 km from Jakarta , the capital of Indonesia. You can catch a glimpse of a trash can of garbage along the way to the main sights and sightseeing tours . You can get here by using a metropolitan taxi, a pedicab or a rented bike or car.
