Bromo

The famous landmark of the island of Java is the Bromo volcano, which is part of the Tanger volcanic complex. Along with Krakatoa , Merali and Ijen, Bromo volcano in Indonesia is one of the most popular among tourists.

general information

Mount Bromo is located in the eastern part of Java, in the territory of the National Park Bromo-Tenger-Semeru. Bromo is not the highest mountain of the National Park: the height of Semer is 3676 m. But in order to climb to the last one, special training is necessary, and the climb takes two days, and anyone can climb to Bromo.

Usually the ascent to the volcano is about 3 o'clock in the morning, and then, standing on the observation platform on Bromo, you can see how the sun rises. The locals believe (and many tourists fully agree with them) that dawns here are the most beautiful in Indonesia. In addition, Semer on the background of Bromo can be seen only in the morning - in the afternoon the summit is hidden by clouds.

Security

Pay attention to the color of the smoke that erupts the Bromo Crater. The more intense the brown color, the higher the activity of the volcano.

Where to sleep?

On the slopes of Bromo is the village of Chemoros Lavagne . Here, if necessary, you can stop and spend the night - the locals willingly surrender their huts, so that those who wish can climb at dawn and admire the stunning views. However, the cost of housing does not match its comfort. In addition, it is very cold to spend the night here (the huts are not heated).

In the villages Ngadisari and Sukapura located slightly lower than the villages, the level of comfort is about the same, however, the cost of accommodation will be much cheaper.

How to get to the volcano?

The easiest way to go to the volcano, buying the appropriate tour in any travel agency. Tours on Bromo start from Jogjakarta and Bali . You can get here yourself. From any major city in Indonesia, you should fly to Surabaya (this is the nearest city to the volcano with the airport ), and from there you can go to Probolingo by bus, train or car. By the way, it's possible to come to the railway from Jakarta , but the journey will take a very long time - more than 16.5 hours.

In Probolingo you will need to take a local Indonesian minibus and drive to the village of ChemorĂ³ Lovang, which is located on the slope of the volcano. From the village you can walk to the temple of Pura Luhur , and from the temple to climb the stairs, which consists of 250 steps, to the top.

Those who consider a pedestrian climb too heavy can rent a horse, but its "final stop" is somewhat earlier than the very top of the mountain: the horses stop at the 233rd stage, and then still have to walk. The cost of the ticket to the national park is about 20 US dollars.
