Tanjungputing - National Park in Indonesia , on the island of Kalimantan . It is known primarily for its population of orangutans, who live here under protection from the 30s of last century.
general information
For the first time the idea of creating an environmental protection area for the purpose of preserving the population of orang-utans and nosacs arose in the hands of the Dutch colonial government. In 1977, the territory received the status of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and in 1982 became a national park .
There is a rehabilitation center for orang-utans: those who lost their habitat due to deforestation, are treated and adapted for living to the wild; some animals remain in the territory of Tanjungputing, others are allowed to live in other places. There are 4 research centers in the park. In addition to orangutans, they engage in other primates.
Tangrungputing Flora
In the park there are several ecosystems with vegetation characteristic for each of them:
- scallop forests;
- mangroves;
- Dipterocarp forests;
- tropical peat bogs.
In addition, new plantations are now growing on the site of the deforested forests.
Fauna of the reserve
Today, not only orangutans and noses live in Tangrungputing, but also gibbons and macaques. In total there are 9 species of primates in the park. Here you can meet other animals:

- barking deer.
Live in the park and birds - more than 230 species, including several species of kingfishers, rhino birds, capercaillie, a lot of waterfowl and birds of wetlands (in particular - white herons).
