Review of the book "The Earth" - Elena Kachur

Acquaintance with the surrounding world, natural phenomena - an important part of the development of the child, environmental education and the formation of personality. And sooner or later he begins to show interest not only in what he sees, what phenomena are happening around him, but also about how our planet is arranged, what kind of peace is outside his native city. However, many parents believe that giving the child knowledge in the field of geography is the responsibility of teachers in school, or, worse, teaching cartoons. Of course, this is not so. Spending no time at all, in simple and understandable language the child can be given knowledge and instilled interest in geography.

Today, on the shelves of shops you can find many books, geographic atlases, various kinds of encyclopedias for children of different ages, designed to help parents in the training of the baby. More I would like to tell about one of them, the book of the publishing house "Mann, Ivanov and Ferber" under the name "Planet Earth", author Elena Kachur.

This book is from a series of children's encyclopedias designed for children of primary school age. It differs from similar editions in that it is written in artistic form and tells about the journey of the curious Chevostok, the man living on the bookshelf, and the all-knowing uncle Kuzi on a fantastic apparatus - a float on the seas and oceans, on distant continents and continents. During this journey, the children, along with Chevostok, will learn a lot of new and interesting information about our planet, about how it is arranged and what causes different natural phenomena.

In the book of 11 chapters:

  1. Let's get acquainted! There is an acquaintance with Ponytail and Uncle Kuzey.
  2. The journey begins. Chevostik studies the globe, its basic notation, and the journey begins.
  3. The air ocean. During the flight Chevostik with readers will learn about the structure of the air sphere of the earth, the atmosphere and winds.
  4. High above the ground. This chapter describes geographic coordinates, parallels and meridians, the hemispheres of the earth, why the day and night, summer and winter are changing.
  5. From the foot to the top. Chevostik studies the mountains, climbs to the top, learns about the glaciers and the mountain lakes.
  6. Seas and ocans. This chapter describes the cycle of water in nature, the Dead Sea and other seas.
  7. Wind and waves. What is calm, and where does the tsunami come from? On what scale is the strength of the storm? Why are there tides? What is the depth of the Mariana Trench? For these and other questions, the reader, along with Chevostik, will know the answers.
  8. Icebergs. This chapter tells how ice floes and icebergs arise and how they differ.
  9. How is our planet arranged? Further, the structure of our planet is studied, its layers and nucleus are described, and the formation of continents is described.
  10. Volcanoes and geysers. The most dangerous part of the journey is to volcanoes and geysers, where they are told how they arise, what is the eruption of the volcano and why it happens, and what are geysers and what they can be useful for.
  11. We are at home again. Travelers return home!

The book is well illustrated, the answers to many questions are supported by simple diagrams and drawings. The book is a convenient A4 format, in a hard quality cover, with a good offset printing, a large clear script that will allow the child to read it easily.

I can say with certainty that "Planet Earth" will be of interest to children from 6 years old, those who are just beginning to get acquainted with geography will help instill a child's interest in the school subject, and, most importantly, develop curiosity and broaden their horizons.
