The museum was founded in 1982 on the site of an old brewery, built in the early XX century. Gekkeikan Ltd., one of Japan's leading companies for the production of aromatic alcoholic beverages from rice-sake, took an active part in its creation. The main purpose of the opening of the museum was to familiarize all visitors with the history of this drink and the process of its production. Today this place is very popular with locals and especially visiting tourists, and the annual number of guests reaches 100 000 people.

Most travelers travel to the Sake Museum with sightseeing groups, accompanied by a qualified guide who can tell in detail about the history of this unique place. Please note that according to the rules of the local administration, booking tickets for a group of over 15 people must be made at least 1 day before the trip.

Booking is not required for individual trips. You can drive yourself to the museum by taxi or by using public transport (electric trains). Leave at one of the following stations: Chushojima (5 minutes to the museum) - the Keihan Main branch or Momoyama-Goryomae (10 min) - the Kintetsu Kyoto branch.

As for the mode of operation, you can visit the museum any day of the week from 9:30 to 16:30. The price of 1 adult ticket is 2.7 cu, and of a child ticket - only 1 cu.
