Diseases of the sinuses of the nose are very common in children of different ages, so every mom just needs to know the types and symptoms of sinusitis - inflammation of the paranasal sinuses.
Types of sinusitis
Since a person has several sinus cavities in his skull, depending on the location of the inflammation, the sinusitis is divided into:
- frontitis - in the frontal;
- sinusitis - in the maxillary sinuses;
- sphenoiditis - in the sphenoid sinus;
- etmoidite - in the latticed.
In children up to the age of 7 years, only the frontal and etmoiditis can be, and only after the remaining sinuses are formed are all the species.
Sinusites are also:
- monosynusitis (in one sinus) and polysynusitis (simultaneously in several);
- one-sided and two-sided.
The duration of the disease is divided into:
- chronic sinusitis - lasting more than 3 months;
- acute sinusitis - lasting up to 3 months;
- recurrent acute sinusitis - starting several (2 - 4) times a year.
Most often, sinusitis occurs with acute respiratory disease, as a result of poorly treated cold. Therefore, all parents, in order not to miss the onset of development of a child's inflammation (sinusitis), one should know the symptoms characteristic of him.
The main signs of how sinusitis manifests in children
Are common:
- a runny nose that does not last more than 2 weeks;
- Increasing by the end of the day, the heaviness and pain in the head, namely in the near-nasal region;
- pressing pain in the teeth of the upper jaw and a feeling of pressure on the eyes;
- complicated nasal breathing and dry cough, appearing only at night or when the child is in a horizontal position;
- dryness in the nasopharynx;
- edema in the cheeks and near the eyes;
- redness of the skin in the area of inflammation;
- Increase facial pain when tilted forward and spread it all over the face.
With purulent sinusitis , the child has the following symptoms:
- the appearance of pus in the discharge from the nose;
- increase in body temperature up to 39 ° С.
Symptoms of the frontitis:
- pain above the nose bridge (in the forehead), periodically very strong;
- the headache decreases after emptying the sinus;
- violation of nasal breathing in the morning;
- at a serious stage - a pain in eyes and a photophobia.
Symptoms of ethmoiditis:
- pressing pain in the nose, nose and behind the eyes;
- serous discharge, then swollen to purulent;
- a strong decrease in smell;
- fever.
Symptoms of genyantritis:
- the appearance of stress in the cheek or under the eyes (on one or both sides);
- the occurrence of blurred, uncertain pain in the temple or forehead;
- discharge from the nose, first mucous then purulent;
- chills and fever.
Symptoms of sphenoiditis:
- headache in the forehead region (deep in the head) or at the back of the head;
- sharp decrease in vision.
All the symptoms of any type of sinusitis are more pronounced in children in the acute form of the disease than in the chronic, but more quickly amenable to treatment. This is especially true of body temperature, which in chronic sinusitis rarely rises above 37.5 ° C and the general condition of the body (weakness, malaise, loss of appetite, etc.).
Children who suffer from a chronic form of sinusitis are more susceptible to all viral and catarrhal diseases, they almost always have nasal congestion, headaches and facial pains periodically occur. Very often these children are diagnosed with the appearance in the nasal sinuses of a foreign body, the formation of polyps and cysts.
Therefore, in order to prevent the transition of the acute form of sinusitis to chronic, at the first appearance even of several symptoms characteristic for this disease, it is recommended to consult a doctor for a more thorough examination and the appointment of appropriate treatment.
