Wroclaw - attractions

Wroclaw is one of the oldest cities in Poland, namely - the historical capital of the Polish region of Silesia. The architecture of Wroclaw is represented by different styles, and this unusual city is also famous for its numerous bridges. It is located on the Odre River, which is divided into a number of branches within the city limits.

In Wrocław there is something to see, the city is rich in its sights. Let's find out about the most interesting of them!

City Hall

The most popular tourist building in Wroclaw is the city hall. The building is located on the Wroclaw market square in the city center. The town hall was built for a long time, from the 13th to the 16th century, and the result of such a long construction was an impressive building in a mixed style - it combines elements of Gothic and Renaissance. At the Town Hall there are astronomical clocks resembling the famous Prague, and inside the building there are several museums and even a small restaurant.

Centenary Hall in Wrocław

Another significant construction for the city is the Hall of the Century, or the People's Hall. It is located in the Szczytnicky Park and serves for mass events such as opera concerts, sports competitions, folk fairs and all kinds of exhibitions.

The building was created using the revolutionary technology of reinforced concrete construction. It was dedicated to the centenary of the Battle of the Peoples, held in 1813 near Leipzig. Exactly 100 years after the Battle, Wroclaw architect Max Berger built the building in the style of early modernism, crowned with a dome. Later, the Hall was subjected to several restorations several times, but no radical changes have taken place to date. Much more has changed the area around the building, now very harmoniously blending into the surrounding landscape.

Not far from the Hall of the Century is the Wroclaw Zoo, occupying an area of 30 hectares. This is one of the largest zoological gardens in Europe: there are more than 800 species of animals, including very rare species of birds.

Wroclaw Gnomes

These bronze figurines, installed in different parts of the city, became a real business card of Wroclaw. It all began in 2001, when the first gnome, then still painted, appeared here. And back in 1987, the legendary "Demonstration of gnomes in Svidnitskaya" was held, organized by the happy movement "Orange Alternative". The number of Wroclaw gnomes is constantly increasing, and each of them has its own history. There are even special brochures that help to find these small "inhabitants" of the city.

Raclawicka panorama

This huge picture is in a specially built for her building. On a circular canvas 114x15 m in size and 38 m in diameter, the Battle of Racławice between Polish rebels and Russian General Tormasov's forces is depicted. The panorama was created in honor of the century of the battle, artists Wojciech Kossak and Jan Styka took part in its creation. For a long time, the Raclava panorama was in Lviv (in Stryi Park), it suffered from bombing during the Great Patriotic War, and in 1946 it was transported to Wroclaw.

Japanese garden in Wrocław

There is an amazing creation of landscape design in Wroclaw - a Japanese garden. In 1913 an exhibition was held here, for which a unique beauty garden was built in the Japanese style. After the exhibition, many of its elements were removed, but then, in 1996, the Polish authorities decided to restore the garden. Invited experts from the Land of the Rising Sun have regained the former charm of the Japanese pearl of Wroclaw.

Japanese garden is in the park Szczytnickim, the entrance there is paid (only from April to October). One of the most interesting features of the garden is numerous plants, arranged in such a way that it seems that they all bloom simultaneously. In addition, there is a picturesque lake, cozy alleys, bridges and gazebos.
