Aspiration biopsy of the endometrium

Aspiration biopsy of the endometrium has come to replace other more traumatic methods of examining the uterus. Today, a vacuum aspiration biopsy is used instead of a separate diagnostic curettage.

The method of aspiration biopsy is used to diagnose diseases of the female genital area associated with the violation of the menstrual cycle, as well as with hormonal changes - uterine myoma, endometriosis, endometritis, etc. The procedure is carried out on different days of the cycle, depending on the specific case.

How is biopsy performed?

For the procedure, you need a tool called "pipe" (hence the second name is the pin-diagnosis of the endometrium). It is a flexible cylinder made of plastic. It is introduced into the uterine cavity, and at the time of its extraction a negative pressure occurs, as a result of which endometrial tissue is drawn into the cylinder. The whole procedure is absolutely painless.

Further, under laboratory conditions, the resulting tissue sample is examined by a histological method. Results are prepared within 7 days. After that the doctor can start treatment of the patient.

Advantages of fine needle aspiration biopsy

When compared with diagnostic curettage, aspiration biopsy has several advantages, the main ones of which are low traumatic and painless. In addition, the procedure does not require the expansion of the cervical canal and can be carried out in an outpatient setting. As a result, it is possible to obtain a sample from any part of the uterus and at the same time not be afraid of the risk of inflammatory diseases.

After the biopsy, the patient feels well, does not lose efficiency and can leave the clinic immediately.

What is the use of aspiration biopsy from the uterine cavity?

Fine needle puncture aspiration biopsy is performed to monitor the condition of the inner lining of the uterus during hormonal therapy, as well as to diagnose hyperplastic processes or endometrial cancer. Due to the procedure it is possible to obtain a sample of the endometrium for the subsequent bacteriological study.

Contraindications to aspiration biopsy

A biopsy can not be performed if you currently have an inflammatory disease of the vagina or cervix (cervicitis, colpitis). The procedure is also contraindicated in pregnancy.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Before you go to a biopsy, you need to pass a clinical blood test, a swab from the vagina, a smear from the cervix to oncocytology, and wait for the results of tests for hepatitis B and C, HIV and syphilis.
