How is myoma size classified?
It should be noted that the small size of the neoplasm usually requires only medical supervision, drug therapy and the assessment of the volume of education in dynamics.
When diagnosing a disease, first of all, pay attention to the size of fibroids. It is customary to calculate it in mm and compare the size of the organ itself, which increased with the disease, with the term of pregnancy. That is why quite often a woman undergoing ultrasound examination hears from a doctor: "size 4 weeks", "size 5 weeks".
Depending on the size of the neoplasm, it is customary to distinguish:
- small myoma - tumor size does not exceed 20 mm. In this case, the uterus corresponds to the 4-5 week of pregnancy;
- average - from 20 to 60 mm. With this amount of education, talk about a period of 5 weeks to 11;
- large fibroids - more than 60 mm, or 12 or more weeks.
It is worth noting that even with a large size of education, women are not always aware of its presence in the body. Often it is found during a preventive examination and ultrasound.
However, in most cases, women with a similar disorder have an increase in the duration and abundance of menstruation, which, moreover, are accompanied by painful sensations. With large sizes of fibroids, there is an increase in the volume of the abdomen, while the total body weight remains unchanged. There may also be a disruption to the operation of nearby organs and systems. This gives a feeling of pressure in the lower abdomen. Often there is an increase in the number of urination, similar to how it happens when a child is born.
How is myoma treated?
There are 2 fundamentally different ways of treating the disease: conservative and radical. In the first case, the disease is treated with medications, in the second - the operation is performed.
Many women, fearing surgical treatment, are interested in: at what size do uterine fibroids do the operation. It must be said that in addition to the size there are other indications for surgical intervention:
- the risk of degeneration of education into a malignant form;
- planning of pregnancy in the near future;
- pronounced pain syndrome;
- The presence of anemia in pathological bleeding;
- violation of the process of urination;
- presence of nodes.
If we talk specifically about the size of the uterine myoma, then in order to carry out the operation it should be at least 40-50 in mm. As for the permissible sizes of uterine fibroids localized on the neck, its size should not exceed 12 weeks.
What is the danger of large uterine fibroids and what to do with such a violation?
In most cases, women who have a small lesion detected are slow to undergo surgery. At the same time, their hopes are related to the fact that hormonal therapy will solve the problem. However, this is possible only at the initial stages of the disease. Moreover, physicians often point out that when hormone therapy is carried out, the size of the myoma does not increase, but when the reception is stopped, education grows.
Speaking of the consequences of the disease, it is necessary to name:
- increased risk of kidney inflammation;
- the transference of a benign tumor to a malignant one;
- continued growth and squeezing of organs;
- infertility.
With uterine myoma large-scale intervention by laparoscopy is impossible. The operation is carried out through the abdominal wall. It is also worth noting that the treatment of uterine fibroids in large sizes without an operation is almost impossible.
Women who have applied late enough for help are often interested in the question of the size of the fibroid in which the uterus is removed. Typically, a similar operation is performed when this organ occupies virtually the entire retroperitoneal space and exerts pressure on neighboring organs to such an extent that in some cases it becomes difficult for a woman to breathe.
