Ovarian enlargement in women - causes

One of the most serious signs of a beginning gynecological disease is considered enlarged ovaries in women. The disease often acquires a chronic form, as the clinical symptoms are not always noticeable, or the woman does not notice them.

The reasons for the increase in ovaries in women

According to medical observations, the right ovary is often enlarged, but it is rather difficult to explain why, most likely the reason is appendicitis. After all, the infection is able to pass from appendicitis to the ovary and vice versa.

  1. Inflammation . The frequent cause of an increase in the size of the ovary is inflammation of the pelvic organs. Often the infection does not manifest itself, it causes chronic inflammation and increases the ovaries. The increase is due to the appearance of a large number of adhesions and infiltration, and not because of the fact that the size of the ovary grows. If the process is tightened with the usual palpation, it will not be possible to separately determine the uterus and ovary - one large organ is probed.
  2. Cervical erosion . Another cause of inflammation may be erosion of the cervix. It traumatizes a small area of the organ to which the pathogenic flora joins and an inflammatory process that can reach the ovary and cause an increase in the left or right ovaries.
  3. Ovarian cyst . Ovarian enlargement due to cysts occurs if the cyst is several or larger than 3 cm. To determine the slight increase in the ovary due to a small cyst, you can only use ultrasound, and it is very difficult to diagnose palpation.
  4. Oncological diseases . If the pelvis develops an oncological tumor, the ovaries also increase. But the prolapse of the enlarged ovary becomes possible only in the later stages. Also, the cause of the increase can serve as metastases of other organs.
  5. The time of ovulation . Ovarian enlargement can occur and the period of ovulation, but it does not last long.

What should I do if my ovary increases?

Women whose ovaries are enlarged should undergo ultrasound transabdominal and transvaginal diagnosis of the pelvis with ultrasound, check the hormonal background, thyroid gland, STI.

Uterus and ovaries are the main reproductive organs, if their work is disrupted, the reproductive function will also be disrupted.
