Bolder's Beach

On Earth there are only a few places where tourists can freely observe the life of the colony of penguins, swim next to them in the sea and enjoy all the delights of a tropical beach holiday. Surprisingly, it's a fact: most of us associate these birds with the cold and ice of Antarctica, but you can meet them in the most unexpected, and even warm places, for example, on Balders beach, not far from Cape Town .

History of the beach

The beach got its name because of the huge granite boulders, which dotted the coast of the Falls Bay . For the first time penguins in the amount of only two pairs appeared on the beach of Boulders in 1982. Today the population numbers up to 3000 birds. Such a rapid increase in the bird population of the beach is due to the ban on fishing in these places, and as a result - an increase in the number of sardines and anchovies, the beloved food of penguins. Today the beach area is included in the national park " Table Mountain " and is protected by the government of South Africa .

Bolder's Beach

The beach is a series of small bays in which birds swim and nest all year round. The natural protection of the beach from strong southeasterly winds is a wall made of huge blocks of stone, the age of which is about 540 million years.

For the convenience of visitors, high platforms are built, which allow you to watch birds from a distance of several meters.

Penguins feel great in the center of a densely populated area, freely splashing in the water and do not pay attention to tourists who can sunbathe and swim next to the birds. However, it is not recommended to feed, iron them, swim in obnimki with cute and funny-looking birds - they have very sharp beaks, and if they notice the danger, they can peck at the finger or in the leg.
