A gold medal received for success and diligence in school is a pride for most of its owners. Back in 1944, this distinction was awarded for the first time to excellent students of Soviet schools. For example, in schools in the Moscow region, a gold medal was given to each 253 graduates, Sakhalin schoolchildren received medals less often - 595 each, and in schools in Kabardino-Balkaria this distinction was present for every 18 graduates! Statistics shock and depressing. It's unfortunate that the distinctive sign, which for decades has been a great motivation for learning, has lost its significance and discredited its own essence in the public eye.
In addition, the cancellation of medals in schools is the result of the introduction of the Unified State Examination in 2010. If earlier the applicant had a gold or silver medal increased the chances of entering into times, the innovation of this privilege deprived them. Since 2010, benefits are provided exclusively to participants in the Olympics and those who successfully passed the USE, having received good scores.
