Crop rotation in the suburban area

Experienced summer residents know that none of the crops - tomatoes, potatoes , carrots, beets and others - can not be grown on the same place every year. But beginners gardening, not having a clue about the crop rotation, can easily lose their harvest. This happens for several reasons - let's figure it out!

Crop rotation on beds

The first thing that is fraught with the lack of annual rotation of vegetables in the garden is the depletion of the soil. As you know, certain plants "love" specific types of minerals, and already at the end of the season in the ground where cabbage grew, there will be very little phosphorus, and potatoes will not have nitrogen and potassium. And, if the next spring to plant the same vegetables here, they simply do not have enough nutrients for normal development and growth. That is why on any land plot it is necessary to conduct a constant cycle of crops.

The second reason is the possibility of contaminating the soil with diseases that various pests suffer. For example, if in the past season you had to fight with the phytophthora or Colorado beetle, then again planting the same nightshade, you double the risk of diseases, which also will not bring any benefit.

There is another rule - after plants that are removed late, after the onset of the first frost (cabbage, carrots, various kinds of greenery), they never plant crops that require early planting. The fact is that during the winter the soil just does not have time to "rest", which means that you will not get a good harvest in such a situation even with the introduction of fertilizers.

Scheme of crop rotation

The correct choice of the predecessor for each vegetable is the key to a good harvest. The scheme of a crop rotation on the dacha site everyone creates independently, and usually it becomes for some years forward. This technique allows you to establish a uniform turnover, to achieve a minimum depletion of soil and avoid unnecessary diseases of your plants. Let's look at the approximate scheme of how to correctly apply the rotation of garden crops on the plot.

In the first column of the table are those vegetables, which are expected to be planted in the next season. The second column is the cultures that are their ideal predecessors, and the latter are those plants, which are not highly recommended to alternate. So, an example of good crop rotation in the country (in the open ground or in a greenhouse) is beetroot after cucumbers, greens or early potato varieties. An excellent option will be the planting of this vegetable where the siderates grew last year - the so-called green fertilizers (legumes, cereals, clover, etc.). But at the same time, the beets should not be planted in the same place for two consecutive years, just as you should not plant it after harvesting cabbage.
