Garden VAR

Garden VAR is a tool that is used to process slices of trees. It is a fusible matter, insoluble in water. Such a war can be self-made or industrial. The latter is sold in horticultural stores and is relatively inexpensive. It has the appearance of a thick paste, which must be kneaded before use.

Garden Var: application

Let's find out how to use the garden bar correctly.

This substance is used in gardening to treat the wounds of fruit trees. The welded and molten paste is coated according to the principle of putty of the place of inoculations and cut (or broken) branches. Garden VAR due to its composition protects the plant from fungi and insect pests. It also prevents the drying of branches, the penetration of water and air. Thanks to the applied garden wax on the surface of the wound, the tissues of the tree begin to update more quickly, and the plant is better restored.

Apply the var should be fresh cuts or damaged areas of the tree bark, using a wooden spatula. If the wound is deep, then in the softened garden var it is possible to add chalk or dolomite.

How to make a garden var?

Garden var, made by own hands, usual light, as it is made of a mixture of wax, rosin, paraffin, ceresin and other substances. This is different from the dark wax used in the shoe industry (it is made of coal or wood tar). The classic composition of the shop varnish is pine resin, petrolatum and various bioadditives.

There are a lot of recipes for making homemade garden dishes. Here are the three most popular ones.

  1. Prepare 50 g of beeswax and lamb fat and 200 g of rosin. Melt the fat, add the wax into it and stir well. In this mass, add finely ground rosin and cook over low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Ready to cook it is necessary to pour into a container with cold water. Then you should grease your hands with lamb fat and work out the var. As a result, it should become soft. Store such var should be wrapped in oiled paper.
  2. To make the so-called cold var, which you do not need to reheat, use the following recipe. According to the scheme described in point 1, bring the mass to a boil. After half an hour, remove the var from the plate and add to it 25 g of alcohol. Stir well and pour the substance into pre-prepared vessels. Tightly clog them and keep them in a cool dark place.
  3. Preheat 25 g of ordinary vegetable oil on the fire, add 100 g of rosin, and then pour this mixture into the molten paraffin. Stir well and pour into a low container lined with parchment.

What can I replace the missing ingredients for cooking garden gum if they are not available? Instead of lamb fat, you can use pork or beef fat, and rosin can be replaced with resin from any coniferous tree.

Also, gardeners are recommended to add crushed in a powder of heteroauxin (1 tablet per 1 kg of garden gum). This helps to more efficient and quick healing of the wounds of the tree.

Other recipes for making garden gum are not so successful, because they do not perform all the functions that are assigned to them. If the composition for impregnating tree sections contains oil processing products or mineral oils (for example, linseed oil, salt oil, petroleum jelly), then it will not bring any useful plant to the living plant. It often happens that a cut of a poor quality cut tree will heal much longer than it would heal without such a "cure." And other additives are more likely to harm, and the tree can get a chemical burn or lead to the necrosis of cells.
