Day of Youth

Practically in every civilized country in the world there are various public youth organizations representing the interests of young men and women who actively participate in the life of the society. The main guarantor of observance of their rights and relying freedoms is, of course, the state itself. More specifically, the leading authority that ensures the implementation of the state policy on children, as well as youth and the family (in some countries, sports and physical culture) is the relevant ministry. Its employees implement various social state programs that contribute to the development of youth policy in the country.

International Youth Day

Strange as it may seem, there is no single International Youth Solidarity Day in the world. So, the International Youth Day holiday has two dates. On August 12 of each year the International Youth Day is celebrated, and the World Youth Day, which was established by the Catholic Church in 1986, was not designated until 1946 by a specific date. It was celebrated on different days once every two or three years. And since 1946 the WFDYM has initiated the celebration of the holiday on November 10 every year.

Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, there was another holiday - the Day of Soviet Youth, which was celebrated every year until 1991 on the last Sunday in June. By the way, in some CIS countries the tradition has been preserved.

Youth Day in different countries

The youth policy in a number of countries has long been given the status of one of the priority areas of state activity. For example, over the past few years, many programs and interesting projects for young people have been implemented in Belarus. Among them there are dozens of television programs for young people and children. At the same time, work is actively being done to improve the educational system of preschool, basic, secondary and higher levels. Along with this, the legal framework is changing.

The Day of Youth in Belarus and Ukraine is celebrated, as in Soviet times, on the last Sunday in June. In Russia, the Youth Day is celebrated annually on June 27. On the same day, solemn events are held in South Ossetia. The Azerbaijani youth celebrates it on February 2. And in Kazakhstan they celebrate Youth Day twice. The matter is that there are no such days in the state, national, professional holidays of this day. However, the Kazakh youth celebrates this day on August 12 in the framework of the International Youth Day, and on April 24 in the framework of the International Youth Solidarity Day, established by the UN and UNESCO.

Youth and the Church

On the day when Orthodox Christians widely celebrate the Meeting of the Lord, the world celebrates the International Orthodox Youth Day. Traditionally in Russia on February 15, the Divine Liturgy is held in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Participation in it is taken by representatives of Orthodox organizations and movements fighting for the rights of young people.

In general, for young people this holiday is not only an occasion to have a good time, because events on the Youth Day are very diverse, starting from various concerts and ending with drinking alcohol in incredible quantities in the city squares, parks and even porches. Such, unfortunately, is the domestic reality, but the essence of this holiday is different. This is the time when you need to think again about how you can realize your potential to the fullest, to be happy in the future, to go to your favorite job, to create a full-fledged happy family and, ultimately, to make your country more prosperous.
