Endau-Rompin


One of the most interesting national parks on the territory of Malaysia is called Endau-Rompin and boasts the presence of unique species of flora and fauna and an interesting village of aboriginal orang-asli.

The Endau-Rompin Reserve is located on the East Coast, in the watershed of two rivers - Endau in the southern part of Johor and Rompin in the north of Pahang State.

History of the Reserve

This national park is the youngest nature reserve in the country. It was opened to visitors in 1993. The name of the endau-rumpin park was obtained due to the rivers running along its northern and southern border. Infrastructure is still poorly developed, and the reserve is mainly intended for practical purposes by biologists and other researchers.

Climate in the park

In the endau-Rompin, the year is hot and the humidity is high. The air temperature is between +25 and + 33ºC. From the middle of December the rainy season begins, which lasts about a month.

The Aboriginal village is located at the entrance to the park and is interesting in that, despite the influence of modernity, the life of the indigenous people has preserved its ancient traditions . They call themselves Yakun and still live in gathering and hunting, and also carefully store the myths and legends about the local jungle passed from generation to generation. In order to get to the village of orang-asli, you need to get a special pass issued free of charge in Kuala Rompin (this is the main park office), or buy it in Johor Bahru .

Flora and fauna of the reserve

The territory of the park is covered mainly by a lowland rain forest with double-winged vegetation. The virgin South Asian jungle is the last refuge of such a rare Sumatran rhinoceros in Malaysia. In addition, in the reserve you can see elephants, tigers, tapirs, gibbons, rhinoceroses, pheasants and cuckoos. The local flora is represented by the endemic species of the palm Lividtonia endauensis, curly bamboo and the cane palm, there are orchids and poisonous mushrooms.

What to do in the reserve?

You can break a campground in the park, go fishing or rafting, swim in a canoe, wander through the jungle or along the river , explore the rapids, go to caves or mountains, swim.

If you decide to walk on foot, then at a distance of 2 hours there are beautiful waterfalls of Malaysia, which bear the names of Boeya Sangkut, Upeh Guling and Batu Hampar. At 15 km from the park's office, at the confluence of Sungai Jasir and Sungai Endau, there is the Kuala-Jasin camp. In 4 hours walk from it is located the unique beauty of the plateau of Janing Barat.

How to get there?

To get to the nature reserve of the Endau-Rompin, you can go by car on the highway or by boat on the river Endau. In the first case, you need to move along the North-South Expressway to Klang, then take the bypass road to Kahang and from it 56 km go along the Kluang-Mersing road to the Kampung Peta guest center and the entrance in the reserve.

If you decide to use the boat, then leave the village of Felda Nitar II (Felda Nitar II). The journey takes about 3 hours. You can relax in the camping along the route.

How to dress and what to bring?

On an excursion to the National Endau-Rompin National Reserve, it is necessary to put closed comfortable shoes and loose-fitting cotton clothing covering hands and feet (in order to protect against insect bites). And be sure to bring a bottle of clean drinking water.
