National Museum of Malaysia


The huge cultural heritage of Malaysia is collected in the National Museum, which is located in Kuala Lumpur . Today the main museum of the country is considered the most visited landmark of the capital after Petronas towers.

Historical reference

National Museum of Malaysia was built in 1963 on the site of the destroyed during the Second World War Selangor Museum. The architectural design was developed by the local company Ho Kwong Yu & Sons. Construction work lasted almost 4 years. The result was a magnificent building in which elements of the palace architecture of Malaysia and folk architecture harmoniously intertwine. The main museum entrance is decorated with a large panel and mosaic, over which eminent artists of the country worked. Unusual pictures tell about the main events in the history of Malaysia.

Museum Exhibitions

The museum is housed in a two-story building. Its exhibits are divided into four thematic galleries:

  1. Archaeological finds. Here you can see stone items from the Paleolithic era, Neolithic ceramics, sculptures dating back centuries. The main pride of the exposition is the skeleton of a man living in this area about ten thousand years ago.
  2. Exhibits of the second gallery tell about the first settlements of the peninsula of Malacca, the Muslim kingdoms. Part of the subjects is dedicated to the trading power of the Malaysian peninsula.
  3. The historical exhibition in the third zone narrates about the colonial past of Malaysia, the Japanese occupation, and ends in 1945.
  4. The history of the formation of the modern state of Malaysia is presented in the fourth hall. State symbols, important documents and many other things are displayed here.

In addition to the above-mentioned thematic exhibitions, the National Museum of Malaysia has a rich collection of cold weapons, national headdresses, women's jewelry, musical instruments. In the ethnographic hall are stored books, which describe important rituals of peoples inhabiting the country.

Transport Museum

After skirting all the halls and getting acquainted with their exhibitions, you can continue the excursion, because there is a transport museum in the open air on the territory. Here is a collection of samples of transport from different eras. Visitors are allowed not only to inspect, but also to touch the exhibits: antique wagons, trishaws, the first car and the train manufactured in Malaysia.

Istana Satu

A valuable object of the National Museum of Malaysia is Istana Satu - a monument of wooden architecture. The building was erected in the XIX century. architect Derahim Endut for Sultan Trenggan. The main feature of Istana Satu is the unique construction technology, in which not one nail was scored. Today, the palace recreates the surroundings that once surrounded its first owner.

You can reach the museum by public transport. The nearest stop is Jalan Tun Sambanthan3 located a couple of hundred meters from the place. Here buses №№112, U82, U82 (W) arrive. The Jalan Damansara motorway will also lead you to the destination. Follow its signs, which will lead you to the National Museum of Malaysia.
