The final treatment of the walls with the finishing putty is the final stage of the finishing works. Finishing putty gives the surface a special smoothness and eliminates all irregularities. This type of work is extremely necessary before painting the walls or applying thin wallpaper. The difference in the composition of the finishing putty from the starting putty lies in its fine-grained texture.
Before you start to treat the surface with the finishing putty, the wall needs to be carefully prepared. This is an extremely important and scrupulous process, since when applying the finish putty the untreated surface will look uneven and rough. Preparation of the wall before the application of the material begins with the leveling and stripping of the pre-applied layer of starting putty. Using a fine abrasive, the surface is thoroughly ground and then scrupulously cleaned. Then, for better adhesion of materials, the surface must be treated with a primer.
And only then you can start applying to the walls of the finish putty.
Finishing putty of walls with own hands
When starting to decorate the walls with your own hands, you must clearly know and adhere to the exact technology of applying putty. Proper selection of the material and the tool is important. For this you need to purchase:
- a container for diluting the dry putty mixture (an old basin or bucket will do);
- set of putty knives: it is recommended to purchase spatulas of different sizes from 200 to 400 mm;
- mixer or drill bit for high-quality stirring of the mixture;
- rollers and brushes for priming the surface before and after applying the finish putty;
- sandpaper. For the grouting of the finishing putty the smallest is used;
- hand hides a device in the form of a plane with a handle and clamps (you can adapt a regular bar, wrapped with a pencil).
Particular attention is paid to the material that will be used for finishing the walls. Mixtures of finishing putty are divided into gypsum, acrylic and cement.
Plaster putty got the widest distribution. This is a good material for obtaining an even surface of the wall before subsequent painting. However, it has a significant drawback - it is used exclusively in dry rooms. From the moisture, the plaster putty exfoliates.
A material based on acrylic is used for decorative wall decoration.
Cement plaster is used for plastering of external walls, under facing with ceramic tiles and for removing large defects. She is not afraid of moisture.
The application of the putty begins with the dilution of the dry mix. To do this, we dilute the mixture strictly according to the instructions (mixed to obtain a homogeneous mass without lumps). The solution should correspond to the consistency of thick sour cream. With a smaller spatula, the mortar is applied to a larger spatula that is spread over the wall surface. In this case, the spatula should be perpendicular to the wall. The puttying is applied not with a thick layer (max. 1 mm). The quality of plastering can be checked with the help of a building level or by directing a side stream of light onto the wall.
In the decoration you can use decorative putty (it is used instead of the finish putty on the wallpaper ). Decorative putty happens:
- Structural is a paste containing granules for imitation of different types of surfaces (stone, wood);
- flock - paste with impregnations of colored grains;
- Venetian - imitation of marble;
- "Under the old days."
Decorative putty on walls with their own hands is an original and inexpensive way of finishing.
