Fireplace finish

Fireplaces are increasingly installed in modern homes to create a special atmosphere of comfort. It can be like a real fireplace with a fireplace, or a false fireplace. But in order for the fireplace to blend harmoniously with the interior of the room, it would be a unique element of decor for it, it will require carefully thought-out decoration.

Decorative fireplace decoration

Since the decorative finish for false fireplaces and fireplaces of the present (heating) is the same, then we will consider some examples of finishing in the aggregate. The simplest and most affordable option is the finishing of the fireplace with plaster. To do this, use a variety of types of decorative plastering (for heating fireplaces - using special mixtures that withstand heating).

And that the fireplace in this design looked more attractive, you can additionally, in combination with plastering, use a kind of finish, such as stucco (gypsum or polyurethane). It can be various moldings, pilasters, friezes, various figures, sculptures, columns and so on.

Often used for finishing the fireplace ceramic tiles. For these purposes, suitable majolica tiles, unglazed (terracotta) tiles, porcelain tiles, which are faced with the use of special mastics or heat-resistant glue. For fireplaces with a powerful wood-burning furnace, tiles that look like ceramic tiles can be used. As an option, you can consider the decoration of the fireplace mosaic.

In any interior will fit a fireplace with wood trim. It is clear that these will be separate elements of the fireplace decor in the form of various inserts - columns, pilasters, arches.

Traditional materials for decorating fireplaces are various types of stone, both construction (boot) and decorative (onyx, jasper, malachite, rhodonite). Stone is used for fragmentary decoration of space around the fireplace or in the form of decorative inserts. The classical version of the fireplace's decoration with a stone is the use of marble. They decorate the fireplace portal, from it they make fire shelves. This type of decoration of the hearth was used for centuries, so when decorating the fireplace for antiquity, it is used most often.

Since the natural stone is heavy (additional load on the load-bearing structures of the house) and expensive, it is now successfully replaced with a different kind of artificial stone. One of the varieties of artificial stone used for decorating fireplaces is a flexible stone. To make it, small particles of sandstone are used, which are fixed on a textile basis with acrylic resins. Thus, a flexible acrylic plate with a surface that accurately conveys the texture of the stone is obtained.
