Greenhouse from window frames

If you have a garden or a household plot, then you can afford to eat vegetables and greens virtually all year round. For this it is only necessary to erect a greenhouse where these tasty and useful plants will grow. In this article, we consider one of the budget options for building such a greenhouse, where window frames are used as source material.

Construction of greenhouses from window frames

Wooden window frames are easy to find. They can be purchased inexpensively or even free of charge from those who change old windows to new, metal-plastic ones. Therefore, problems should not arise with the material.

But as for the foundation, then this question should be considered. The foundation for the greenhouse is necessary, otherwise it will be used under the weight of frames and covering material. There are several possible variants here: brick, stone, wooden beam or cement mortar. The last two are most suitable for building an inexpensive homemade greenhouse from window frames.

Also consider the location of the greenhouse and the type of soil beneath it. It is desirable that there was a sandy layer, otherwise it is better to make a "pillow" of gravel and sand. Do not install the greenhouse on too wet, marshy soil or where there is a high groundwater table.

When the foundation is ready, the window frames are installed on it. This is done most often with the help of screws and metal corners, not only by screwing each frame onto the base, but also reliably connecting the windows together. Another way to collect the frame for a greenhouse is to use wooden beams and nails, as well as conventional metal wire or clamps. But remember that the strength of the structure depends on the type of installation you choose.

In case the frames of different designs do not fit well together, use improvised materials, such as polycarbonate and polyethylene scraps, mounting foam and sealant. The main thing is that the upper part of the structure should be level, on which the roof will be subsequently installed.

After installing the frame, it is recommended to cover the upper part of the greenhouse from the old window frames with a polyethylene film. To do this you will need to make a "ceiling" - a light crate of wooden rails or a mounting profile. Then stretch the film using clamps or special clamps.
