Hollow fontanelle

Роднички - sites on a head of the kid, not closed by a cranium. Such gaps are lined with a connective membrane and covered with skin. Thanks to them, the child is able to pass through the birth canal. During childbirth, the bones of the skull are displaced, which causes the child to move through the mother's large and small pelvis. The head protruding from front to back is the norm at first. But a few days after the birth, the head of the newborn becomes round.

Thus, the fontanels create an additional volume for the child not only after birth, but also in the first months of life, allowing to soften small strokes and tremors. A large fontanel is called a rhomboid space at the junction of the frontal and parietal bones. Already at 1.5 -2 years, this gap is closed.

The hollow fontanel of the baby

The baby's rodney is directly connected to the brain, and any changes in the adjacent tissues are instantly reflected on it. Thus, with increasing intracranial pressure, even insignificant, the pulsation of the fontanelle (periodic bulging and occlusion) can manifest itself. This can be detected with the naked eye or at the touch when viewed with your fingers. If this situation occurs periodically, during crying or restlessness of the baby, it is considered a manifestation of the norm and no treatment is required. However, if the pulsation becomes permanent and does not decrease with the age of the baby, it is necessary to urgently consult a neurologist and, subsequently, to make an ultrasound of the brain (neurosonography).

The hollow fontanel in newborns can be with infectious disease, high temperature, diarrhea and vomiting. In this case, this is a sign of dehydration. During treatment, antibiotics are prescribed to kill the infection and drink various liquids that increase the water balance in the baby's body.

In order not to face the case when the child has a fontanel, it is necessary first of all to facilitate its timely closure:
