How to choose an infrared heater?

Sometimes, especially in old houses, the basic heating system does not cope with maintaining a comfortable temperature in the home, and people have to save themselves additional types of heating. The modern market offers us a large selection of additional heating appliances, but infra-red heaters occupy a special place. They are compact, have a high efficiency, as well as the heat produced by them is environmentally friendly. If you decide which is better to choose a heater, then choosing an infrared heater you can be sure that your health and the health of your loved ones will be safe. Let's figure out how to choose the right heater.

Types of infrared heaters

Basically, infrared heaters differ from each other in the principle by which the heat-emitting element is arranged. In total there are three types of such elements - a heat radiating plate, a quartz tube and an open spiral. Let's now consider each type of infrared heater separately.

Infrared heaters with an open spiral as a heat-emitting element are probably remembered by many. In Soviet times, such a heater was in almost every house. His spiral warmed up red. Today, these heaters are practically not used. They are fire hazardous and, in addition, the oxygen in the air is burned, which makes the air in the room very dry.

In heaters based on a quartz tube, the heat radiating element is the same spiral, only closed by a sealed metal. In this case, the air from the tube is pumped out and the problem of dehumidification disappears by itself. Such types of infrared heaters have the greatest efficiency, but they have some drawbacks. They are related to the fact that during operation the tube warms up to 700 ° C and as a result the dust settling on the tube starts to burn. Because of this, an unpleasant smell may appear in the room, and people may develop an allergic reaction.

An infrared heater with a heat radiating plate consists of a so-called TEN (tubular electric heater) located inside an aluminum anodized profile. This type of heater is the most environmentally friendly and safe. Since it heats up only to 100 ° C, then neither dust nor oxygen is burned. Its only drawback is a quiet crackle, which is caused by some physical properties of stainless steel and aluminum, of which TEN is made.

How to choose the right infrared heater?

After you have decided which one to choose an infrared heater, or more precisely which of its types, it's time to go to the model line.

Before choosing carefully inspect the heater plate, its color and texture should be smooth and homogeneous. In the case of choosing a heater with a heat-radiating plate (this type is the most acceptable for most buyers), ask the sales consultant what thickness of the anodizing layer it has - the thickness of the layer should be at least 25 microns. At the first switching on, such a heater can go fine cracks (cobwebs), but this should not be frightened, such a phenomenon is within the permissible range. Find out what material is made of TEN - in quality heaters this is stainless steel. Examine the body of the device, especially its rear part, which is usually not painted. If you notice rust marks on it, it means that on the other side of the heater the paint was applied directly to the rusty metal. And over time, rust will manifest through the painting, and this will not only make your heater unattractive, but will also shorten the lifespan.
