Iceland - tourist attractions

What do we know about Iceland? Fjords, mountains, Vikings, the Blue Lagoon and a volcano with the unpronounceable name of Eyyafyadlayekudl - that's probably all that will immediately come to mind for most of us. So maybe it's time to get acquainted with this amazing country closer? Sit back, we begin our story about the main sights of Iceland, one of the most interesting countries in the world .

The most beautiful places in Iceland

  1. One of the most beautiful places in Iceland, part of the local Golden Ring is the Valley of Geysers . The main of the local thermal springs was born as a result of an earthquake in the late 13th century and was named the Great Geysir. Periodically, the Great Geysir begins to "work", throwing a few dozen meters of a jet of hot water to the altitude. During its long life, the Valley of Geysers repeatedly passed from hand to hand, becoming open for general use, then remaining accessible only for money. Today, there operates a whole tourist network, offering tourists a visit to the Valley with bathing in the least hot springs. Interestingly, Icelanders adapted this miracle of nature for purely domestic purposes - they heat their houses with hot water from sources.
  2. The town of Landmannalaguar in the south of Iceland attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists and photographers annually with its truly unearthly beauty. Yeah, local landscapes can hardly be called pastoral or even habitual eyes. The rocks that form the slopes of the local hills are simply crazy with a variety of their colors - purple boulders alternate with golden-buffy to give way to blue and emerald thermal springs.
  3. Photographers will also like the waterfall Aldeyarfoss , located in the north of the country. Majestic streams of water rush between black basalt columns to fall with a noise from a height of 20 meters. What is remarkable, in winter and summer the surroundings of the waterfall look like two completely different terrains.
  4. Enchanting landscapes can be seen in the Icelandic village of Kirkjubayarleistyur . At the end of the 18th century, several of the strongest eruptions of the volcano occurred here one after another, as a result of which local landscapes turned out to be substantially redrawn. Part of the fertile land for ever disappeared under the layer of lava, there were new embankments and even the rivers changed the habitual channels. Perhaps therefore, too, the village has acquired the glory of the most mystical corner of Iceland, where evil spirits live and wander the souls of innocently murdered people. Those who are far from mysticism, for sure, will like especially "earthly" entertainment - trout and salmon fishing, climbing mountains and interesting excursions.
  5. Fans of the great Beatles should go to the Icelandic island of Videy, where the Tower of Peace is erected in memory of John Lennon - a huge 17-meter pedestal made of white stones. Surprisingly, the tower itself, as such, is not - it creates powerful rays of white light coming from the immured searchlights. You can not see this miracle every day - the light is lit only on special dates - from October 9 to December 8 (the date of birth and death of Lennon), on New Year's Eve and the winter solstice.
  6. Fans of all the unusual will like the pearl of Reykjavik - a chamomile-shaped building. In the spherical core of this building there is a winter garden and exhibition halls, a restaurant and an observation deck, cafes and shops. In one of the "petals" of the camomile is the "Saga" - the Icelandic Wax Museum, in which you can not only see unique exhibits, but also learn many interesting facts from the history of the country and its mythology.
